Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR

Telephoto zoom lens | Nikon F (DX)

I had an idea to sell my 55-200vr and get used 55-300vr but I ended up buying the brand new and I think it was a good deal, at least for my region (259 euros). I disliked 55-200vr for being very soft @200mm even at f8-11. Was hoping for better 200mm performance and some more reach is welcomed. My usage is probably 90% full body portraits and some some nature shots. So here's a little review, mostly comparing to 55-200vr. Positive: Build: Very solid feeling lens, feels sturdier than 55-200vr ...

This Lens Is Amazing For A Beginner. I Would Admit It's Nothing Compared To A 70-200 F2.8 Or 300 F2.8 But For A Beginner Looking For Zoom Its  The Best Choice And It Have SWM What Is Silent Wave Motor And It's Quality At 300mm Is Very Crisp. ONLY £170 From DigitalRev. Very Happy With Build Quality Aswell.

This lens is really confusing because its usages are all really limited. Its high and limited aperture makes it really hard to use. You can't shoot it during night and its a heavy lens. Its too slow for sports and its inability to to properly blur out the background for portraits. I brought the lens over the summer with my first dslr and maybe used it around around ten times but haven't since used it. It is now winter and the lens is far too heavy and useless to actually make me want to use ...

The VR seems to be just ok, I turn it off whenever I can as it does effect image quality, but if you in a bind and your the shutter speed is running dangerously low I turn it on to save the shot.  The ED glass really shines, this lens has much better quality then the kit lens.  I would dare say that you could use this lens as a portrait lens as the Bokah is really pronounced when you get over 85mm zoom, and the ED glass on top of that makes really desirable pictures with low chromatic ...

This is a good second lens to the 18-55 kit lens. It covers a huge focal range and you won't think twice about purchasing this. Conversely, if you are photographing faster moving subjects then seriously consider spending slightly more on the similar 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G VR due to the much faster AF. Positives (1) lightweight (2) compliments kit lens' focal range (3) excellent VR system (4) metal mount Negatives: (1) soft at ...

Hi. I've had this lens for 8 months now as a replacement for a defective 55-200 and I find it superior to the 55-200 but by a small margin. I like the sharpness and the contrast. it's the perfect partner to my old and faithful D90. One thing though: the autofocus is very slow. Actually it's the slowest autofocus lens in my bag. Even the entry entry level Sigma 70-300 Apo macro has a faster focus. Anyhow, it's good for me and I'm very satisfied.

Top shelf image quality, VR and tough all for a decent price ! Pros: Descent sharpness, CA well controlled and good AF speed in daylight. Cons: Rotating front element is a minor pain when using a polarizer. Used this lens for just under a year now on the D5000 & D5100. Great for outside shooting, birding, etc. Also good for inside portrait/flash shooting. Actually ran into a post while chasing a bird....the lens was slammed dead on but withstood the abuse, surprised me how tough this light ...
