I bought this camera almost 3 years ago for the pockatable 18X optical zoom.  My previous camera  only had a 10X zoom. It is fast, the image stabiliser works well and image quality is acceptable when in focus.  The LCD screen is excellent. The big and I mean very big problem is the focus.  IQ is irrelevant if the photo is out off focus! There are two situations where this camera has problems focusing. First outside at long distances with the zoom above 10X.  The range 10X to 18X is useless, ...

- Fun camera that I take everywhere I go. - Night landscape and night portrait modes work well. - Nicely implemented flash release. - No problem getting decent images at longest focal length using VR. - Camera metering is good. - Good responsiveness of menus. Problems: - Noticeable degree of barrel distortion at widest focal length. - In camera HDR is not good, images come out grey. - Dust easily gets inside the lens causing dots on images (probably happens with all long zoom compacts like ...

For a couple days I've been testing my new camera. PROS Picture quality is fine, the shutter fires quickly, LCD display is great 921,000 pixels gives a sharp image. Problems: I can only complain about metering. Auto focus indoor works very poor - sometimes need to half-press shutter button a few times before image is sharp. In a poor light auto-focus does not work at all even though illumination light is on. I must say that my old coolpix 995 works better in such conditions. Once auto-focus ...

Have the camera for 3 months now. It's been back to NIKON for repair twice already and I am about to send it for a third time. The outdoor pictures are OK although not as sharp as I would expect. The problem is mainly with indoor shots. Very often the pictures come out blurry. Even the slightest movement of the object can cause blurriness. Also, very often the pictures come out washed out when a flash is used. What I noticed is that the camera uses very slow speed shooting inside 1/30 which ...

PROS - Well built with a good feeling in the hand. - Well placed buttons and easy to use. - Fairly good photos even dim light. - Fast first shot and fast focusing. CONS - Can only recharge when the battery is INSIDE the camera. So you cannot use the camera while you are recharging one battery even if you have 10 spare batteries. COMPLETELY IDIOTIC! - The connector for recharging/USB is on the bottom of the camera. So when recharging the battery or connecting to the computer you have to lay it ...

After owning 2 compact cameras and having 1 fat-body one I decided to get back into the lightweight compact world. Overall, Nikon S9100 is great performer apart 2 issues (described in problems). Zoom and noise reduction are impressive. HDR works pretty nice (not like post-processing on the PC, but works!) Image stabilization is very good in hybrid mode (a bit noisy though, but not a problem). In-camera picture editing features are sufficient. Problems: 1. "Easy panorama" mode is not so ...

Although still pictures look good, ergonomic is fine and response is fast, that camera can not be used as a "travel zoom" camera if you consider also taking video as well as stills. Problems: Poorly implemented electronic image stabilization in video. In addition, for an unknown reason, CMOS rolling shutter effects (jello) become worst at the end of the zoom when shooting video. On paper it should work well, as the sensor (Sony made) provides adequate frame-rate for effective electronic ...

I'have nikon s10, nikon d60 and the new s9100. Naturally the d60 is on other planet.. The s9100 is small, have a good sensor and good optic's group (25-450 eq. with lens ED, but not very fast lens!) Af is very fast and take photo in low light good enought. But, for me, the image quality of nikon s10 is very better in daylight. (better optic with max aperture f 3.5 on all the focal, and very little out of focus in the corner, and flash more powerful). In the old s10 (6mp, but with superb ...

This is my second compact. I purchased it for the 18x zoom lens and for the hi-def screen. This camera benefits from using a tripod to get sharp results in full zoom mode. Actually most picture taking that requires composition and thought will benefit from the use of a tripod. But you already knew that. I haven't transferred any photographs to my computer so I don't know how my pictures will look on my 24 inch Samsung A/D monitor, but previous photos taken with other cameras have looked good. ...

I am a good amateur. I used to use an F3. It took a long time for digital cameras to get cheap enough and good enough for me. This one is. It is really nice to have a camera that will fit in my pocket and do almost as well as some of the SLRs I used to have. The main thing I like about it is the zoom. Wide angle to pretty good telephoto. Such a good telephoto, it is hard to hold. The shutter fires quickly (at least for the experience I have had with other point and shoots). But as a P&S it is ...
