Opinion: On the way to find my compact camera I buy this s710 for good price, curious to test. Not really satisfied from Nikon, the sensor is good but the lens I think is chip. Good color, no problem at all in any conditions but all the picture have bad focus. If you don't pretend, is ok, but if you zooming on the pictures you understand.

Problems: Lens chip or bad focus. Battery level don't exist, when is low you don't understand and the camera crash off. HD movies limited, only 17 minutes for 1.5gb, No more.

Ohi, ohi, Nikon.

Opinion: Basically a very good camera but somewhat overpriced in Australia. Solid buld but the metal finish is prone to scratching. Good sized LCD is visible outside. Picture quality is very good but noise is visible in shadows at ISO100 however can get away with printing up to ISO800. The jump to ISO3200 just decimates picture quality and these settings and above should have been omitted.

I like the flexibility of aperature and shutter priority modes, the shift function on the program auto, and the full manual controls. This is probably the smallest camera to offer this level of flexibility.

Battery life seems OK but I don't appreciate the battery indicator that only appears when the battery is low. The menu system is not the best arranged, but once you get use to it, easy enough to live with.

Lens quality seems filne and nice to start at 28mm even if distortion a bit hgh. Fairly good at handling CA and the colour and metering seems close enough most of the time.

A good all-round camera.

Opinion: I have this camera for about 2 weeks. Make nice pictures in most cases - sharp, with good colors and not much noise to ISO 400. ISO 800,1600 for emergency, but you don't need it very often as IS helps. Manual modes ASM are very good implemented.

Problems: No real problem, sometimes has problem to lock focus in low light. Manual focus will be usefull. Buttons are slightly small for me.

Opinion: I’m a professional photographer who was looking for a high-end compact camera when not using my Nikon D2x. Overall this is a great little camera. First tests prints were impressive.

Opinion: I am used to Canon 40d with a fast lens, and wanted to have a little point and shoot.

I was interested about noise. Cos I like to take photos in theatres, etc.

And the results are quite good. Noise at 100, 200, 400 iso is more than acceptable, and I am beeing exigent.

Pros:

Little body.
LCD. Sharp, accurate, and with useful multicoating.
Controls. Manual controls are simple to use. Very intuitive.
Focus. It is very precise.
VR. Effective system.
All electronics stuffs, like smile shutter and d-lighting (I dont use them)

Opinion: It's 4 days I received my Nikon S710 and test it.

Camera is build very well (nikon best), very easy tu use menu & fast start-up.

Photos during day with sun are SUPER as with a professional camera. 14 Mp are a lot.. and you see it in any detail of photos.

Shots with clouds or inside home are still very good. If you use tripod and long times, results are excellent as with sun. With fast times you see a little of noise, but is reasonable. If you use flash of course ther're no problems.

I like shot photos without flash, because usual results are much better (colors, etc..)

With photos during night noise is more visible, but you can reduce noise with long exposure or with flash for close subject.

I'll post soon some sample photos.

Ezio
