Opinion: Bought this on holiday in Breckenridge as I didn't want to take my Nikon D300 skiiing. Nice and compact, quick start up, and well built. Decent size clear and bright screen. For the size and money, the picture quality is very good indeed. Noise visible in shadow areas even in well lit daylight shots when viewed at 100%, but shouldn't present any problems when printing 7x5 or 8x6. Ditto for jpeg artifacts. 10M pixel is far too much for the size of sensor and lens!
Small amount of barrel distortion visible at 28mm, and a small amount of colour fringing, but again these won't be visible at 8x6 print size. Of course, easy to correct in PP using Lightroom or other.
White balance is pretty much spot on, although the S610c can struggle a little with mixed indoor lighting.
Haven't used the Wi-Fi upload function yet (probably never will), but seems easy enough.
Shutter lag is not noticable and metering is accurate too.
Pros: Well built, compact, speedy response, good picture quality. Useful zoom range. Optical image stabiliser works well. Lots of silly features- if you like that sort of thing!
Cons: No RAW! No manual settings for aperture and/or shutter speed. 10M pixel excessive for size of lens/sensor. Flash too close to lens, would be better placed as on S560.
