Hi! Last summer I bought Nikon P520, and it turned out to be a great camera. Many many hours were spent in the forest watching birds. While this camera is great for the price, there are a few shortcomings I'd like to address by buying something other for the next season: 1. Viewfinder is not suitable for birding - too small, too grainy, can't recognize small details to focus properly. 2. Unreliable focus - lots of missed valuable moments. 3. Shutter lag - bird is often already gone. 4. Too...

Hoping someone can shed some light on the advisability of a 3rd party battery & charger vs the mfr's genuine equipment. I read several queries in the Nikon Coolpix forum but with inconclusive (my opinion) results. My Coolpix P520 came with a single battery. The Nikon-supplied charging scheme allows only in-camera charging. I also have a pocket Nikon (S51) that has an external charger. While the batteries appear similar the P520 is too large (esp length) to fit the S51 charger. 1. Is there a...

I will like to purchase an extra battery for my camera, but I am not sure how good are the other brands I am seeing online. My Nikon P520 came with the original NIKON EN-EL5 battery, but after about 150 - 200 pics the battery is exhausted and sometimes I take more than that amount of pics at any one outing. I have seen the LENMAR DLNEL5 Nikon EN-EL5 replacement battery and the INSTEN 2 replacement at WALMART, anyone know how good are these brands. I am afraid of buying batteries that will...

I have a coolpix p520 and really like it.  I am looking for a second camera as a backup or so I can have each camera set to certain parameters (black and white for one, color for the other that I would have already configured for each camera) when I am in a situation where I would need to change modes very quickly.  As I am on a fixed income I need to keep within the price range of these two cameras.  Also, I feel that anything I want to do with a camera can be done with either of these...

I've got the app to run my P520 remotely from my 'phone and it works great with stills, including zoom but don't see any way to run the video remotely. In remote control, the record button on the camera is de-activated and there's no record button showing in the phone display. Does anyone know if the video function can be accessed remotely ??  I did try to do a search but came up with nothing on the subject. Thanks............Lars --Larry BourneAirplane Builder; Fish Chaser; Desert Rat;...

Just acquired the Nikon P520 about one week.  I have only used it in Auto Mode, because I am an Amateur photographer.  I have tried taking photos with the Zoom at its fullest and have found that my pictures are not clear, they are cloudy.  Could you please guide me as to how I must get clear photos when using the Zoom lense.

I just bought a refurbished Nikon P520 and ran down to Best Buy to toss a UV filter on it. A quick (obviously, too quick) search on the internet shows it takes a 77 mm filter. I tried it. I tried it with the 62 mm step down ring. Then a 58, a 55, a 52 and a 49. They were all too large. Obviously, something is wrong. The sales rep at the store went online and said he also found it needed a 77 mm filter, then he added that he saw something about a Nikon adaptor ring. Is this some type of...

Question No. 1: I used Nikon Coolpix P520 to shoot some full moon pictures and I got fantastic pictures of the moon showing quite clearly the surface of the moon. But after several shots I couldn't get such images and all I could see of the moon is just bright ball instead of the impact craters. Could the lens or sensor of the camera be damaged by the bright light of the moon when shooting at it? Question No. 2: When I aim at something far using telefocus, like the moon, the monitor shows red...
