This is a great shirt-pocket camera. It takes great images, gives lots of manual control and, at 8 MP, is a great all-around camera. You just can't beat being able to drop it in your shirt pocket to carry around nearly everywhere.

I've been a faithful Nikon user for the last twenty years. My first camera was a F601M SLR from which I built a sizeable collection of professional cameras including a F4 and several Nikon optics. This Coolpix P4 which I bought to make snapshots of my family ended my long relationship with Nikon! The camera worked (and still works) flawlessly as all Nikons do. However after several months of use the side fittings begun to get loose and fracture at the bendings: they were made of CHEAP ...

My wife likes to take photos and is still using a film camera that is about 15 years old. She is not a "techy" type and has not wanted to learn digital. However, my daughter recently purchased a Nikon S6 and she was very impressed. I just purchased the P4 as a gift for our anniversary. The camera is great. This camera can be whatever you want it to be...simple, point and shoot or much more creative. I expect the camera will be used in the fully automatic mode 99% of the time, but it is nice ...

Just threw away my Sony p-200, I was tired of the dust problems and bad customer service. This Nikon is terrific !! Very easy to use. Takes great photos. Slightly soft but they sharpen easily in post process. Amazing macro. Great color reproduction. An all around great little camera Problems: The sound on the movie mode cuts out before the finished video. I spoke to nikon and they said they are looking into it.

I really like this camera. I sold my Coolpix 4500 because although I liked the camera, I bought a D70 for serious shooting, and just wanted something to slip in a pocket to take with me everyday. That said, whatever I purchase even as a casual camera has to be capable of making good pictures. This camera fits the bill. Ease of use, picture quality, VR its all there in a nice little metal case. Problems: My only disappointment was no Black & White option. But I have a nice converter so thats ...

At first I was a little bit disappointed about the image quality -images looked very soft- but after about 500 shots I get more and more satisfied. The in-camera sharpening is a little bit soft, the contrast is very high. So I fixed the sharpening at high and the contrast at -1 to get good results, but images won't become crunchy, even at highest sharpening setting. Saturation should be normal to avoid extremely strong green. When I started to work with this camera I got many blured images ...

P4 is a handy digital camera fitting well in my hand; it has design to enable one-hand (the right hand) operations. It is packed in a strong and substantial, sliver-colored metal case with smoothly shaped edges and corners. This gives really good handling experience for your hands. The beautiful and well-built outlook simply tells everyone it is a high-tech and well-design digital camera. Check a review at: photos-of-the-year.com/articles/nikon-coolpix-p4
