Opinion: Nice camera for the $$, until the lens motor failed, now getting the dreaded "lens error" and the camera is useless.
Problems: "lens error"
Opinion: Stylish, ergonomic, nice-look camera.
Almost perfect automatic mode image quality.
In general, good small camera. Very good results in normal light conditions (day or powerful lightening indoor).
Problems: Very disappointing that there are no focus-assistant lamp. It is present, but it's named as 'self-timer' lamp and specially limited (to show only time delay for self-timer). It may work as focus-assistant lamp but I think it specially turned off, may be for next version of camera. Will be nice if Nikon make a new firmware with turned on this feature.
It's a very big minus. In low-light conditions there are some problems with focusing, it take quite long time and sometime fails.
Another a bit strange "feature" -- it is white balanse in night mode. It's a very "yellow". Not natural. And very noisy... there are no way to control ISO, it's always highest (nosiest) possible in low light room and with mode "night landscape".
Small lens can't show 6Mpx on image, details are 'blured'. So, I think, there are no sense to use 6Mpx. Settings in 3Mpx will be enough. You'll put more images on SD-card, and this resolution is enough to print photos ~18*13 cm.
Opinion: I'm well pleased with the performance of this camera and at £130 think it's brilliant value. ISO 800 makes indoor use without flash possible and Picture Project 1.7 enables me to do just about everything i want with pictures.
Whilst construction seems generally good tha flap that retains the batteries looks a bit delicate and the plastic gizmo covering the A/V port is IMO poorly designed. I'll treat both with extra care!
Problems: None.
Opinion: I find the L6 is well built, very easy to use and has pretty good image quality
for a small snapshot camera. The LCD screen is large and bright which is a
must for composing shots because there is no viewfinder. It has a setting
(which you can turn on or off) that will warn you if the picture might be
blurry which is pretty accurate, this lets you know to try another shot. The
flash is bright. The zoom is just right, quick but not too quick. Color is very
pleasing, completely natural without being flat in stanard mode. Images are
sharp without being overly sharp. If you are used to the smoothness of Canon
images L6 images will have a slightly different look. The highest quality jpg
setting isn't as fine as I would prefer. The extreme corners of wide angle shots
are a little soft and distorted. Very bright whites have some purple/blue
fringing. Many of these problems are standard for this class of camera and the
L6, while not perfect, manages them fairly well. It's a good choice for a point-
and-shoot camera as long as you are not interested in having (or paying for)
manual control, a view finder, RAW file format, Image Stabilization or plan on
making large prints. It's just a simple point-and-shoot camera that in my
opinion takes pretty good pictures indoors and outdoors.
Problems: I had to return the first L6 I bought because it came with a dead pixel
surrounded by dark pixels in the middle of the CCD. Releasing a camera from
the factory in this condition is, shall I say? less than ideal. Otherwise I would
have rated the construction higher.
Opinion: Easy to use. Easy to carry and good to very good pictures. This is my first Nikon camera and I am impressed with the construction. The features are pretty intuitive but there are not too many extras. This is a blessing and curse. It makes it easy to use but some of the cooler features from my other cameras are missing. Good to very good pictures but not alwayts crisp and clear. Regarding value for the money. I think it stacks up pretty well with any of the 6.0 megapixels. Somewhat higher in price- the quality construction and Nikon reputation appear to be worth the extra $15-20 you pay over similiar canon and Kodak models. Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Problems: I can't seem to be able to turn off that "red eye" pre flash. Many of my photos are ruined because the camera is able to catch the blink the first flash causes.
Opinion: Love the Camera. AA Batteries can be found anywhere. SD Memory Cards are great for storage. Menu's are pretty good for the price range of this camera.
The images are Pretty good also. I also have a Sony Alpha. I bought this camera as a smaller more portible camera. It serves the purpose well.
Problems: The only draw back so far is the time it take to write the image - recovery time before the next picture. But for the price what can you expect..
