Nikon Coolpix L4

low cost camera. Great value for the money. Image is best when iso locked at lowest setting. Compare to Canon A570IS (which has 7 mp) this 4 mp camera has a better image. the Nikon L4 has much lower noise and better detail. Managed to take 10,600 pics to date and still working fine. Dropped it a few times and it survived well. (There is a nikon recall on a certain production date, see nikonusa.com) Problems: when locked at lowest iso (100) hand shake is a concern.

I've had this camera for six months now, and I must say it is a pretty good camera at first. It takes pretty good pictures, provided the light is right. I love the macro close up feature, but I'm frustrated with the flash. For the $99 I paid I'm pretty happy. On the positive side it's super compact, focuses fairly fast in bright light, has a reasonably strong flash, and the image quality is pretty good. Problems: On the downside it stuggles to focus in normal room light to low light, takes 3-4 seconds to start up, and takes 1-2 seconds to recover in-between shots. The best camera low money 100$!!!!!!!

Bought as a xmas gift for $80 (after google checkout). Constuction isn't great for lens cover or battery door. Played with camera for 5 min... No problems with focus even in low light. Image quality surprisingly good. Great macro too. Low noise and good color at 100% crop. Flash is a little weak and recharge is slow. at $99 (staples) it was an easy decision, I also have a Nikon D200 and a D70 and no I don't expect similar results. Funy thing though, For work I frequently need to take pictures of equipment and wiring closets etc. My big cameras cause me lots of questions when I am on sites. So I wanted something for my briefcase or pocket that would go with less attention. It's results are perfect for what I needed!

The flash is consideravly stronger than my Coolpix 800 which was unrepairable and this was offered as a replacement. Battery life is exceptional and the only negative is trying to get good contrast with close ups . Frequently the flash will wipe out features. Pretty happy with the value for the price.
