Opinion: As a feature-rich semi-pro camera for the creative spirit it is unparalleled. As a PhD camera the pictures are superb and sure to inspire boundless exploration of digital photography.

Problems: None.

Opinion: I have owned the 950 990 and now the 995 Coolpix.. Every bit of moaning and groaning that I did with previous versions of this camera have been quelled. The folks at Nikon obviously chose to listen to their Tech Support staff who were recruited initially for normal shifts and then, likely due to Nikon View Software problems went 24hr 7days a week. The new Version 4.0.2 installs clean and operates well. The new battery saves a lot of hassle and does what they say it will do.. Works for a couple of hours of shooting with the monitor on.. If this one holds up like Nikons are prone to, I may keep it for quite a while.. Images are what we have come to expect from Nikon... clean......

Problems: not one.

Opinion: After owning the 950, the 990 was a pure delight as it worked very much like my F100 and swithcing back and forth was quite easy. One issue that I did have with the 990 was low light focus so I tried the G1 for a week. The G1 focused where the Nikon couldn't due to its assist beam but I longed for the familiar feel and features of the 990. When the 995 came out, bye bye G1. Focusing is better than the 990 but the feel is not quite as solid. I like the NR feature as I shoot a lot at night. Redeye, which was notorious in previous 9xx version is now much better. Whenever I can, I use my SB28 but the pop up make it less of a necessity. Overall, the 995 is a nice improvement for me. I would like to have seen more granularity in Manual exposure mode with regards to F-stops and shutter speeds in 1/3 stop increments and I would like to see the 8 seconds extend out to 30 or 60. I would like to see true TTL flash as well as the focus assist beam work with the SB28. Minor wished on a great camera.
The upgrade was woth it for me but will probably not be for other 990 owners.

Problems: No problems.
