Opinion: Excellent dc - I have used my CP 900 for two years. Picture quality is great! I really have enjoyed taking pictures and sharing them with friends. Also love to impress people with NIKON name.
Problems: Batteries never lasted long enough - but over came problem by getting a battery power pack - Now I never run out of power - Power pack is $$ but overall worth it - pays for self. Also do have problem with Zoom not responding sometimes, until I keep pushing the button.
LED hard to see in bright light but again I bought a cover for it that blocks the light - kind of like a lens hood.
Opinion: I have had this camera for 3 years now. I use it to shoot virtual tours of real estate for real estate agents. Its made it money back 100 fold.
Problems: When changing batteries I have to reset all of the setting. I think there must be an internal battery that has gone bad that should hold my setting while I change batteries.
Opinion: Used this as my only camera for 3 years with good results almost all of the time. Took it on 3 week trips (with extra set of batteries and a charger) and ended up with 100 very good pictures. Camera was always an interest catcher. Last trip used Lithium batteries and they lasted the entire 2 week trip. Really the only way to go except for the initial cost of the camera. Enlargements up to 8x10" were possible with good results. Key is the printer and the paper.
Problems: Battery life is a problem. Even sitting in the unused camera they drain. Flash shouldn't be counted on for anything over 6 or 8 feet.
Opinion: This was my first "real" digital camera, a friend of mine sold it to me cheap to upgrade to the 995. Compared to the countless dc's I've used at work, the CP900 produced some of the best images to date, esp. in low-light situations, such as parties or the Las Vegas nightlife. My only irk was I was unable to capture action shots. The swivel broke when the camera fell off the tripod (I'm a rookie, remember?), and $250 and two weeks later, it was better than new. CF Cards are convenient, and I get decent battery life with NiMH batteries. Definitely not a Point-and-shoot camera, but a wonderful studio and nature camera. I'm convinced that my next camera will also be a Nikon, though I'm leaning toward the 885 (no breakable swivel).
Problems: While convenient, the swivel posed to be a fatal flaw for my 900.
Opinion: Owned for 3 years - ups and downs.
Construction problems over time became a pain. The pictures always under exposed in bright light under all settings. I had to force over exposure in manual mode. Colors would be too flat in shots with bright colors.
I love the twist design which means you can take pics from waist level and don't look like such a tourist :)
The Auto-focus works great so photos are always crisp (given the resolution).
There are plenty of add-on lenses which really add to the experience of these cameras.
Problems: The body fell apart at the 11 month mark (the halves separated) but still under warrenty then and repaired promptly. Developed a problem where it wouldn't turn on at random (not related to battery strength) which got worse and more frustrating. Then the zoom started playing up - would not zoom out sometimes.
Pictures are usually underexposed in brighter light and colors are flat.
Opinion: i fell in love with this camera, picture quality is absolutely fantastic, brightness was amazing easy to use
Problems: had two replacement cameras, nikon not very quick at repairing. Main problem, batteries died within seconds whether brand new or rechargable. At the end of the day i am very sad as this camera is wonderful and takes fantastic pictures, now am dishearted due to battery problems.
Opinion: The 900 was and still is my first digital camera. Being a graphic artist, I enjoyed the picture quality delivered by the Nikon which in its day rivaled most others on the market (within its price range). The ability to add wide angle and fish-eye lenses allowed me to extend the investment and capture unique photographs.
Problems: The complexity of the camera was a distraction at times and made it difficult to share with others even to simply take a group shot with myself included.
The timeout to auto-shut off was set at 30s which was too fast. The option to extend the time actually didn't work! The time between REC and PLAY modes is excessively lengthy and zoom was slow and sometimes gets "stuck".
Last point; every time you put the batteries back in, you have to reset the date and time - this is very annyoing.
Opinion: my first digital camera and what a suprise. worth every penny and have enjoyed every picture i have taken with it.
the body and control buttons are very easy to use easy to reach while taking a picture. and very nice picture quality it is 1.2 megapixels but very nice color quality.it was alot for my first camera but i made the right choice and very happy with the outcome.
Problems: it has a lot of features and i am still trying to figure them all out. other then that no problems.
