I bought the 885 5 weeks ago and I’m very satisfied! Good camera, very very easy to handle!!! Strong battery and fastest to recharge. Problems: Photos are too reds in indoor shots: anyway this problem can be to overcome easily with the software included with the camera. Congratulations on your nice website and tanks for all opinions that you have expressed. *** I’m sorry for bad English!!! ***

I use this camera for 2 months starting August 2002, and were frustrated with the various problems. 1. Horrible strong red saturation ( even after firmware upgrade to 1.2 2. Horrible level of noise in indoor shots even at ISO100. 3. Extremely bad Chromatic Aberration in high contrast 3. Very slow response in starting up 4. Very slow shutter response when you turn off the LCD and use the viewfinder. The only good thing is that the size is small and convenient to carry about. I finally sold in ...

Do not buy this camera!! There are two main faults - the well known red problem. I tried to take pictures of bricks for my new house and the colors were so far off that they were useless! Less well known is the fact that you can't turn off the LCD and use the viewfinder. There is like a 4sec shutter delay when you try this. As a result, battery life is miserable. Also unacceptable is the very slow wake-up time after auto shut down. I had mine for 10 months and just traded it in on a ...

I bought my 885 for $450 including 129 mb CF-card from a friend. After all great reviews that I have red here. It was as good as I have thought, but the "red and cyan problem" is bathering me alot. Thats the real big problem whit this camera, so why didn't Nikon fix that before the started sell it? If I had pay full price, which in sweden is nearly 1000 dollars, I would have been a disappointed. Problems: read abow

Great Camera but have had some problems. Pictures are sharp and clear. Easy to handle and menus are user friendly. Have owned 885 for about 4 months and overall it is a fun and easy camera to use. This is my second digital camera. I also have experience with other Sony and Nikon cameras from work. Color is good and battery life is good. I am using 128MB CF (12x) and it holds about 80 to 100 pictures in Fine mode with least JPEG compression selected. Overall it is a great camera. Flash ...

Good image quality , easy to use , pictures taken at night are clear. Battery life is longer than I expected , I can take over 36 pictures and mainly with flash. Problems: In auto focusing, the 'click' sound is annoying.

I have bought Coolpix 885 for 6 months.Basically,it is a good camera for me excep the red problem. Before using it ,you should learn how to tune it manually, otherwise you cannot get good pictures in low light situation. In auto mode,it is difficult to get good pictures unless the lighting is good.I donot recommend it if you want to buy a new DC. Sony PSC-s75 or Canon S30 may be a better choice. Problems: 1. the picture is red in most situations in auto mode. 2. lens cap is annoying.

The short: DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA! I spent the bucks on this camera, having heard so many good things about it. Indeed, it is quite an impressive little camera, except for one major problem. Inexplicably the camera distorts reds in a completely unacceptable way, so badly that I consider the camera unusable. To a lesser extent it also distorts cyan. Everyday red and green objects not only leap out of the picture, but dominate it. Sometimes the effect is so pronounced that red objects look ...

I have been using this camera now for over six weeks, and have not found it lacking in any feature that I have become accustomed to using in my previous 950, which I have given to my son. In fact for ease of use, this little box is a real joy. I have used every type of camera from Linhof, Speed Graphic, Hasselblad, to Brownie box cameras, in my 70 odd years, and this Nikon has yet to disappoint me. Problems: Reds are red. but so what? That is what Photo Deluxe, or Elements,is for.

Nikon refused to repair my 885 which was under warranty. It had not been near any water, or mistreated. They claim "water damage". After supporting Nikon for years, i will never purchase their products again. The flash stopped working and the screen stopped working less then 1 year into ownership. The time it takes to save image onto camera so you can take another shot is ridiculous. Sure, when it worked it was an ok piece of equipment! No big hoots, but maaan am i disappointed. What a ...
