I'm a Nikon F-601 owner just getting into digicams. I've had this camera for 2 weeks now, gave it a pretty thorough test run during this time. Picture quality is good. Controls are pretty intuitive, Nikon obviously thought about its ergonomics. Scene modes are good - in particular the beach mode, the exposure was pretty much spot on and didn't lose detail in subject's face when on a bright beach. Metering is spot on almost all of the time, I usually ran it in auto or scene modes. Manual ...

This is my first 3 megapixel Camera. I actually was aiming for a 2 megapixel and kinda inched up on buying. I was originally targeting a Canon S300 and then S30. Why did I settle on the 885? It is a great size and fits snuggly in my hand. The grip is superb. Strong feature set and the ability to use add-on lenses make it right for me. Problems: Chromatic aberations are evident in some shots as well as the tendency towards reds.

I bought the camera as a travel companion. It had to be small and light but provide fair image quality and flexible automatic settings. The 885 has all that. I especially like the 12 pre-programmed scene settings which are good for most situations. The screen is *small*, but of good quality and picture sharpness can be checked afterwards by digitally zooming in. This is my 1st digital camera and I think it is very user friendly, although it is slooow. That's annoying. After switching on, it ...

I bought this camera 1 week ago and used it intensively in many situations. Although I like the compactness of the body and all the features offered (the movie capablity is really good), I have been disappointed on some points as explained below. Problems: TOO SLOW! How many times I tried snap an instant from the car or in the street without response. When the monitor is switched OFF to save the battery, it takes 2 to 5 seconds before the focus can be done. Sometimes, the camera just never ...

This is my first digital camera, though I have owned Nikon cameras in the past, the main reason for buying a Nikon again. In general I found the initially daunting selection of options easy to follow after a short time with the camera. Holiday snapshots in auto at a lower resolution were perfectly acceptable. Images of buildings taken at the highest resolution and for slide presentations are consistent and of a very high quality. I like the cameras compact dimensions and the fact that for an ...

I am into the third day of owneship and have been primarily using the camera in full Auto mode. So far I have seen some instances of the over bearing red pixels, but nothing like what others have been experiencing. The most I have to do is adjust the contrast/brightness of the finished product - something I probably could do within the 885 but can't be bothered yet. Just picked up the new Canon S30 for atrial and will decide by the end of the week which one will find a home in my camera bag. ...

I rated this camera below par for image quality before. Now I'm reverting my previous rating since I guess when using the Auto mode.. not everything will be taken care off. Some of my pics taken using some of the setting produces better than what I expected. Problems: Too red-ish and some pixelated images (may be due to the wrong setting I use).

I am very pleased with my Nikon 885. I am far from being a pro at photography and do not have a great deal of experience with other digitals. However, I have a friend who does and as far as I can tell, the picture I have taken with my Nikon 885 are of quality equal to those taken with his older Nikon 990. What I like most about my camera is its size/features combination. Problems: none to date

This camera is very poor I recently bought a Nikon Coolpix 885 and am extremely disappointed. I returned two of them and after the third one gave up. This camera appears to suffer badly from a low quality CCD, which makes the problems impossible to deal with. Yes it is 3.3 megapixels, but it performs terribly. Either they cheaped it out or made a bad batch. I was so upset I put a page on my website. Go to www.stonebound.com/badnikon.html for details and sample images that Nikon for ...
