Opinion: This camera is very poor
I recently bought a Nikon Coolpix 885 and am extremely disappointed. I returned two of them and after the third one gave up. This camera appears to suffer badly from a low quality CCD, which makes the problems impossible to deal with. Yes it is 3.3 megapixels, but it performs terribly. Either they cheaped it out or made a bad batch. I was so upset I put a page on my website. Go to www.stonebound.com/badnikon.html for details and sample images that Nikon for sure will not want you to see!

Problems: Extremely bad bit depth and color balance no matter what mode or resolution

Opinion: I am very pleased with my Nikon 885. I am far from being a pro at photography and do not have a great deal of experience with other digitals. However, I have a friend who does and as far as I can tell, the picture I have taken with my Nikon 885 are of quality equal to those taken with his older Nikon 990. What I like most about my camera is its size/features combination.

Problems: none to date

Opinion: I rated this camera below par for image quality before. Now I'm reverting my previous rating since I guess when using the Auto mode.. not everything will be taken care off. Some of my pics taken using some of the setting produces better than what I expected.

Problems: Too red-ish and some pixelated images (may be due to the wrong setting I use).

Opinion: I am into the third day of owneship and have been primarily using the camera in full Auto mode. So far I have seen some instances of the over bearing red pixels, but nothing like what others have been experiencing. The most I have to do is adjust the contrast/brightness of the finished product - something I probably could do within the 885 but can't be bothered yet. Just picked up the new Canon S30 for atrial and will decide by the end of the week which one will find a home in my camera bag.

Problems: None to date.
