Opinion: Verry good image quality
Great macro
Build quality solid and reliable
Extremely configurable from point and shot in scene up to full manual mode (manual focus, aperture and shutter)

Problems: Sloooow power up
Sloooow auto focus (poncutal mode)
Noisy auto focus (ponctual or continuous)
Sloooow monitor wake up (after auto extinction)
Slooooooooow RAW mode write (9MB)
Slow Fine mode write, especially from the 2nd shot
Zoom only 2.5 (while others were giving 3)
Limited battery life (LCD on / scene / continuous auto focus)
Continuous auto focus mandatory on scene mode
Scene fireworks request mandatory stabilisation feet
Aperture knows only 2 settings open/closed
LCD lisiblity in shiny weather
No audio in video
Missing 2:3 ratio (was available on 990)
Frequent blury pictures on indide shot without flash, which reflects a relative slow lens (compared to my 15 year old sheap Canon SLR)
After all, partialy immature and expensive

Problems: This camera did not come with a rechargable battery or charger. That was really annoying (and hard to find)! Then the battery life is really not that long if you leave the LCD screen on for more than a few seconds at a time. The flash is weak in doors, and no matter what i do all of the people in my pictures end up with red eyes!

Opinion: I've now owned my 880 for 2 years. At the time, 3.2 was about as high as you could go megapixels wise. It was a vast improvement over the Kodak 240 I was using at work. Image quality was better than my Agfa 1280. (Agfa 1280 was a fantastic 2mp digital camera though, beating out the image quality of most higher megapixel cameras that came after it).

I take my 880 everywhere, I use my belt camera bag as my wallet. I have had no problems with the camera, only have a few comments.

It is lightweight, small, good pics except in low light like a concert. Then I used a tripod and no flash. I get the most life from 2CR5 Energizer® e²® Photo Lithium batteries. Not Duracell, or other brand of 2CR5's. I get pretty good life out of a rechargable 2CR5.

No noise in pictures, I usually use hi res setting and mid size setting unless I know I'll be either just emailing or be printing large.

I find the menu's easy to use. (though I am an experienced user). I'd say if you're looking for a good used 3MP plus camera, you're safe with this one.

Opinion: I like the camera very well (or should i say liked now i bought the coolpix 5700). It performed everytime very well, image quality is good to very good. Macro capability is really good. Very easy to use but you'll have to keep these following things in mind
- if you use a lot the lcd screen and a lot of flash you'll need extra rechargeable batteries .. in the end i used 4 rechargeable batteries on one evening while taking picutures in a very dark pub.(so all the time flash and all the time the lcd on)
- it's slooooooooow. Turning on the power and you had to wait 5 to 8 seconds before the camera is ready to fire
- zoom is not good, it's really the most limiting factor of the camera
- there are different auto modes (full, everything auto except ev, everything auto except diafragma or "full" manual) but there isn't a setting where you can decide the shutterspeed and leave the rest on auto

but don't let me scare you off. I took more than 5000 pictures with it and it never let me down. If a photo wasn't good it was always my fault (expecting the impossible of the camera like taking sharp pictures in a dark pub without flash). So if you look at the money, it's definitely worth the money !

Problems: two minor, barely mentionnable things
- when you turn on the camera and forget to take the lens cap of you sometimes need to remove the battery because the lens is blocked when it tried to extract with the lens cap on.

- after 7 hours(!) of working with it, the camera just crashed (comparable with the bleu screen of windows) but after (again) removal of the battery and restarting it it functionned again fine (but lost the picture i was trying to take. I guess that the battery/camera had problems with heath

Opinion: I just love this camera. Very good pictures indoors and outdoors. For beginners just use the Auto or preconfig modes for nice pictures. Start to experiment after a while with the P-A-M modes.

In the beginning I used the LCD-viewer (like on my old SONY) a lot but now I just just the 'analog' finder and the battery last several hours.

Suggestion: Buy the battery rechargestation and two rechargeble batteries.

Problems: * Battery life when using the LCD-view

Opinion: I bought this camera in april 2001, one year ago. Yesterday, it was stolen from my car. I have to say, i've shared a lot of memories with this camera. It served my uses well while I had it and i will miss it.

the image light adjustment was fantastic as was the macro mode. There was a bit too much red for indoor images, but outdoor pictures at night were amazing when flash was off!

Now that i have to buy a new camera, i think i'll probably go for the Canon S30 though, not the Nikon 885. One year has passed and the competition has improved while Nikon is still using a huge body. I think i might as well get a slimline camera with the same manual features. THe canon s30 seems to match this.

Problems: Too much Red
Camera tends to turn on by accident a lot.
Low battery life

Opinion: I like everything about the camera, and especially how long the batteries seem to last.

Problems: I cannot TOLERATE the oversaturations of reds and I am considering returning it for that reason.

Opinion: Macro feature on Nikon 880 camera is amazing .... took some pictures of flowers the other day and when I showed it to friends and my co-workers at work they thought it was some picture out of National Geography .... picture was so crisp and clear that you can count pollen grains.
I have found this camera to have quite a punch for its size and price; paid close to $345.00 including s/h for a brand new camera.
Just like any other digital camera I would highly recomend getting the battery charger with Rechargable battery ($39.00 on eBay)
It will initially take approximately 45 minutes to get to know some basics about camera and its menu functions. I will definately say that reading the manual will help answer lot of question and problem some people had experienced here. Its simple yet to fully utilize the potential of this camera you have to know what you are doing ...

"Ofcourse the car will steer in the direction you turn " ... same applies for the camera.

Problems: None so far .... I have been using it for over 3 months.
