Nikon Coolpix 8700

Opinion: After four years with this camera, I have to say it's the second mosted hated rig I've owned in the past 40 years. Dollar for dollar this camera is worth about 2 cents, fact is I'd never buy this rig again had I known about a few other cameras on the market at the same time. After using NIKON film rigs for years I was drwn to buy a NIKON performance point and shoot like a bug to the flame, and we all know what happens to the bug once he arrives at the flame

Opinion: I've had this camera since Dec. 2004. Images are great, no noise or artifacts in any image. Recording speed is slow compared to new cameras but the images are second to none. Takes great pictures in full auto but has plenty of settings for manual usage. Have had NO PROBLEMS with the camera after about 5000 pictures.

The articulated LCD screen is a joy to use.

ISO speed is low and gets grainy quickly are my only real complaints.

Opinion: The Nikon Coolpix 8700 is an upgrade of the 5700, using the same magnesium alloy chassis, with some significant changes. Of course, the biggest change is the the growth from 5 to 8 megapixels. On a practical level, this means that flawless 16×20 prints are now a reality for advanced amateur digital photo enthusiasts. Other changes are
1) A significantly better LCD that is both bigger and brighter,
2) A gorgeous viewfinder that is crisp and finely detailed (a real improvement here!),

Opinion: Excellent NON-SLR Camera for the newbe. Many features to tool around with. Menu's Take alittle getting used to but when you get familiar with them then it is like second nature. Very nice handling. Adapts well to the user and the user adapts well to the camera.

Opinion: Good older chip camera , good image I would score at 4.3 but I score it below panasonic fz20 by a hair and V3 from Sony. No shake stabilization!!!! which makes even outdoor shots which this camera is for iffy, no manual focus wheel to get those shots if you wanted to fine tune like fz20, but you can't,, a bit old dreary chips like reviewer said ," "nothing that makes it stand out" a bit of noise, less then Panasonic.Poor low light, way worse then Panasonic and rather slow clunky. Good images if you happen to be at right place and right time ( good luck with that) . There are better nikons now out there! Be forewarned
