Opinion: A great first camera to start taking pictures with. Lots of features built in (my favorite was the panorama assist) that make taking photos extremely easy. I would say this is a great camera to throw in your bag when you go on an outing or trip with friends because it is so convenient and small. The camera uses 2AA batteries which can be bought almost anywhere (I used rechargeable to save on constantly buying). The camera itself is also very sturdy, I've dropped it more than I can count, and it still works like nothing ever happened.

Problems: The flash takes ages to load after discharging and it eats through the batteries like nothing else. Also, because it is a compact camera, there is very little camera control which makes it not great for night photography. It might be too simple for some, but that's why they have more advanced models right?

Opinion: Amazing camera if you know how to use it.
I purchesed this camera in July 2005, it looked and felt very complicated but I decided I wouldn't use it until I study the manual from start to finish - I did and that's when my pictures have started to amaze me with outstanding quality, color and sharpness. Almost everytime I was showing the pix made by this camera to people, 99% feedback was "what kinda camera do you have!? The pictures are amazing!" Pateince in learning how to use it will give you a great quality pix for the price you just can't beat!

Forgot to mention... my camera was droped at least 4 times.. (one time from the stairs to the concrit floor - it flew at least 12 feet..) it looks ugly but works perfect!!

Opinion: This is a joy not a cam

Problems: It is automatic. No colors quality. No good contrast. the white colour seem to be yellow. The blue of the sky seem to be ...atomic! A poor flash.
Many problems

Opinion: Really dissapointed with this camera. It was given to me as a present with the chance to change it to another model. I have used many Sony, Canon and fuji compacts and was really pleased with them but I decided to keep it, thinking a Nikon couldn't be bad. I was very wrong!
-it struggles to focus under low-lit conditions
-there is no explicit focusing target - you are supposed to center the object to focus but this is somewhat ambigous
-the flash takes for ever to charge
-Picture clarity and noise are poor, the algorithm for the automatic iso setting doesn't seem to be very effective.
-In almost all situations (except in very sunny conditions) you need a flash to freeze the picture. But in many cases the ambient light is enough to blur your photo even with flash.
-The built-in modes don't work very well except for the party mode which works well under disco or concert lights but not in a house party!
The only occasions you take good photos is indoors with some ambient light to aid the autofocus, or outdoors in very sunny days. 3 and 4 year old models do better than that...

Problems: No problems so far

Opinion: As a seasoned SLR user, dedicated Nikon user, and long-time amateur photographer, I purchased this inexpensive digital for a recent trip to Paris. I chose this product on the basis of Nikon reputation, easy transportability and cost.

Although my primary goal was to chronicle the trip, my photos were outstanding in every regard. It took little time to learn the basics. This little camera -- that fit anywhere, went everywhere, allowing me to capture shots that now grace my walls (and I am most particular) -- accomplished both in optimum day and more challenging nighttime (without a tripod) light. My enlargements through 16x20 have been fantastic. With the added grace of an exhorbitant number of exposures, the sharpness and the color -- particularly in the enhanced mode, is extraordinary.

This camera has rekindled a photography passion that has increased and diminished in intensity throughout an approximate 30 years of interest. It has also solidified the merits of digital photography versus traditional film and development. Since it's small enough, I keep it with me constantly (it's not just the equipment, it's the opportunity), and will be joined by a post-holiday upgrade to either a D70s or the Coolpix 8800 for those well-intended "opportunities" and planned excursions.

Problems: I find nothing left wonting regarding this particular piece of equipment, particulalry in relationship to its intented use and price range.

Opinion: I bought this camera mainly for taking pictures when I travel.
A big advantage of this camera is its low power consumption.
I use the original Nicon's rechargable batteries and always carry a spair pair of alclaline AA (just in case). Withe one pair of Nicon's rechargables I manage to take about 200 shots. Though I rarely use the flash, but the LCD is always on.

The picture quality is excelent if taken in day light.

Problems: Low light conditions are not handled well.

Opinion: Jagnese is a VENDOR trying to knock ritz camera and Nikon. He's posted bad reviews on too many cameras to be a consumer. I've never met a customer who's had "several" cameras and has damaged them all. Unless he's using them to play soccer or baseball.

Yeah, canon's are so great. Your problems dissapeare?

Problems: Does not work well as a soccer ball or baseball. Oddly seems to stop working.

Camera displays "lens error" wich according to Nikon is only displayed when you drop the camera with the lens out or you open the lens against your pocket or bend the lens. Hmmmmm........

Great camera for $249, but get a 4600 if you can.

Opinion: They keep on breaking. Tried three different Nikon cameras and had them all fail after a month or so. Switched to a Canon and my problems disappeared. Should not have let the salesman at Ritz talk me into this one.

Problems: Had two of these cameras and the lens failed to function in both. You cannot put these cameras in even a protected pocket and expect them to continue functioning. They are the most fragile cameras I have ever used. My advice is to go for the Canon. I got a comparable one, used it the same way, and it keeps on ticking.
