Opinion: Owned this camera.
For any camera, the single most important thing is focusing. There is no pic quality to speak of if it cannot even focus well. It must be fast, reliable and sharp for outdoor and indoor. If the camera does not pass this criteria, any other features are considered unimportant anymore and the cam is considered junk. A lot of professional reviewers missed this point. They don't test or even tell you much about it.

The good :
1. Focusing is very fast, reliable indoor or outdoor, even under low light. Much more reliable than my much pricier Canon S60 in fact. Took more than 100 flash people, zero missed shots!
2. Outdoor images are relatively very good and sharp but the white balance seems is little off on a sunny day.
3. Uses AA size battery. One charge can take about 150 pictures (half flash), less than Nikon claims of 250 pics, but still good.
4. Picture quality of flash shots are very good, skin tones are very nice. Nice colors and sharp.

Problems: The bad :
1. The shot to shot cycle time with flash is agonisingly slow. Pissed off most of the people I take. Pissed me off as well ! Over 6 secs! Outrageous! Technology going backwards! Should not have happened to a reputable camera manufacturer like Nikon who should have understood photography. Making people wait is not photography, its a chore especially if you plan to take many shots of a person.
2. Night scene mode takes horrible pics. The noise is too much. The image is blurred even with tripod. Image a little overexposed. The noise processing is terrible in this mode. Unusable, by my standards.
3. Lack of manual controls but is expected. A good point and shoot camera, nothing more, nothing less.

Opinion: I needed a small great point and shoot. I have 4 other digicams. My small pocket cam is now showing it's age (1.2Mp). Bought coolpix 2100 for Fiance a while back. It consistantly does not take one bad picture. Was looking at Fuji E500 - small w/manual controls. Was at Central Camera in Chicago looking for the Fuji, the 4600s just came in. I checked it out. Loved the size. I bought it.
I carry it with me all the time w/ a belt clip case. You never know when there is a good shot to be had....
The 4600 works great. Image quality is clear, sharp, no jaggies. Fast boot time. Macro works great. Very good battery life. I'm very satified.

Problems: Not so good in low light and hi ISO, but flash works great indoors. No manual controls but what does one expect for a point and shoot.

Opinion: The camera is really small, very practical. The batteries last for quite a long time. The first time I took more than 200 pictures with the same batteries. I think for people beggining is a great camera. I was expecting a little bit more.

Problems: As it is really small it's kind of easy to get blurred images when the light is poor. A tripod is recommended.
I got quite disappointed with the video because it has no sound.

Opinion: Very fragile. I was switched to this camera at Ritz when shopping for a Canon. I used it as a carry camera because I like to have one with me at all times. DONT CARRY THIS CAMERA WITHAOUT A PADDED CASE. I did and within a week the lens would not close due to misalignment.

Problems: Had two of these cameras and the lens failed to function in both. You cannot put these cameras in even a protected pocket and expect them to continue functioning. They are the most fragile cameras I have ever used. My advice is to go for the Canon. I got a comparable one, used it the same way, and it keeps on ticking.
