Opinion: I just don't like this camera. My wife has the 2100 and it takes good pictures for a 2.1 camera. I took a chance on the 4100 hoping it would do the same. Very dissappointed.
Problems: Camera controls: Can't turn off the digital zoom. Can't turn off the lcd without navigating through the menu. Eats batteries.
Image Quality: Very noisy. Outdoor pictures looked as if they were taken with a 1 mp camera. Indoor pictures were even worse. Also, without being able to turn off digital zoom, it's easy to zoom out of optical and into digital. Why do camera manufacturers even bother with digital zoom anymore?
Opinion: I bought this nikon coolpix 4100 after comaring with the Casio EXILIM EX-Z30. In size, price, and picture quality I found it to be very similar.
That is until I got it home! My girlfriend has a predicessor of this camera and really likes the way it works (menus, picture settings etc) and I had been told that the lenses that the coolpix cameras use are second to none. Day time shots in good light I fond to be very nice, crisp and great colour. Low light and nighttime shots however I found very grainy, lots of noise and not too easy to correct using pc software. The time between pressing the shutter button and taking a photo was long easily gave rise to blurred shots. I have to admit though- I only spent one day and night playing with settings so this might have been easy enough to correct, but I really dont want to be spending my time scrolling through nasty menus whilst my subject gets bored/flies away/runs off/drives past/sun goes in......etc....!
The video function seemed to work really nicely, except if you use continuous focusing the noise is not only annoying but is recorded and included in your playback!
I subsequently took ths camera back to the shop and swapped for canon ixus IIs.
Read my review for Canon Digital IXUS IIs (powershot 110) as this is the camera I now own!
Problems: Lots, as mentioned above!
Opinion: I purchased this camera a month ago and have been very pleased with its overall performance.
The image quality is excellent when I've taken pictures both inside and outside with varying levels of lighting.
This is my first digital camera and I found it very easy to use. After reading through the manual and using the PC based tutorial that was provided with the camera and then taking some pictures, I felt very comfortable using the camera.
Overall, I think it is excellent value for the money.
Problems: So, far I have not encountered any problems with the camera.
Opinion: Excellent point and shoot camera. Very compact and light.
For 6x4 prints definition is excellent. 8x10 is about the largest print possible while retaining a high quality.
So far I haven't fully explored all the 'scene' modes, but Museum (for low light without flash) and Panorama Assist have proved very useful.
A new set of 2000mAh NiMh batteries were used for about 40 shots over a 3 week period before the low battery warning icon appeared.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this camera.
Problems: None so far.
