Opinion: I bought this camera at a special price HK$2200 (~US$282) two months ago. The formal retail price should be about HK$2800. This is my 2nd DC. My first one is 2500. My brother has a 3100 which is a very good point and shoot DC. But 3700 is even better. The macro, movie, startup time, LCD clarity, sound-release shutter & long battery life are most impressive features to me.
Problems: Problem - none
Considering the price, I should not make any complaint. If I have, it will be that I find it no more easy to shoot at the height of waist as my 2500 because it is not a swival design.
Opinion: First of all, I wish to thank You for your help to find my dig.cam. with functions that I expected. I bought it in December 05th 2003. in Belgrade for 400 EUR(plus 100 EUR for 256MB SD card), 10 days before official sale in West Europe started (very profesional for Nikon Office in Serbia).
I'm an amater in dig. photography, but I have quite solid experiance for already 30 years in classic photography. I use DC for professional purpose (macro photo. of dog's eye). This is my frst DC, but I've tried 6 -7 different DC's (Canon A70, Nikon Coolpix 2100, Nikon D2H, Sony and Fuji differnt models).
Macro is almost perfect, 26mm horizontal minimum distance without, or with minimal distorsion. Automatic mode functions are more then good. "Manual functions" don't have any adventages over automatic. Refresh, and copy time is good. Meny is easy for use. Flash is good even in macro mode. Battery is excellent. Manual has some misinformations, for example: movie clips 640 x 480, 30fps lasts max 60sec, witch is unthrue. It can bi almost unlimited, depending on the SD mem.card. LCD is excellent.
Problems: Red color is a litlle soft. Sound tends to be late in move clips. Nikon software might be more compatible with Windows XP.
Opinion: The construction is very good exept for the batterie/SD card door which looks 'light'.
Very easy to use. A very good 'point and shoot' APN for my wife
Problems: None
Opinion: Important:
A new firmware version is available (May 2004) v 1.2 for free download and easy installation. It rectifies some video and SD card problems. See www.nikonus.com
A wonderfully designed camera. The elongated shape allows you to hand hold the camera steadily. The picture quality is better than that from my previously owned Canon S30. The controls are much more responsive. Very fast start up and very good shot to shot times with minimal shutter lag. IF you pay attention to what each scene mode does, you'll find the camera much more flexible that a camera that lacks scene modes. Look at the following link for an excellent online tutorial:

Problems: None. So far. By the way, Nikon's Digital Tech Support is toll free and available 24/7. They are very helpful and knowledgable.
