Minolta DiMAGE Z1

After owning a Fuji Mx500, then a HP 720, I have now just a week ago purchased the Minolta Z1... For me being an artist, I use my Digital camera's as an extension to a sketch book, to capture the true colours and some more close up details, I will only paint, what I have been to see and sketched/photographed myself, I feel I can produce a better painting from actually being there, so I have chosen the Minolta Z1, for its super zoom of approx 380mm, its fairly light weight and relatively small ...

My first impression of the Minolta Z1 was not good. It felt cheap and plasticy, if it was accidentaly dropped then that would be the end of it. I installed the SD card and batteries then started to take pictures. The image quality is good but has some noticable purple fringeing, the autofocus is not so good for fast moving objects but okay for general use. I got this camera a week ago and have been very impressed. It is a very nice looking and feeling camera. It is very easy to operate and could be easily operated using only one hand, the button layout is very nice. The image quality is quite good and any loss of quality can easily be made up for using photoshop. The batteries that came with my camerfa(regular alkalines) have lasted me a whole week at about 15 pictures a day roughly half with flash. I also used the LCD extensively which ...

I just received my Z1 in the mail. So far so good. A few quick snaps of my motorcycle in sunlight were quite good. Very easy to use, maybe just a little too small for my hands though. Problems: Autofocus operation during movie file generation is quite noticeable in the audio track. Plan to record your movies in loud environments or skip the audio capture.

I have had this camera since 2003 and I´m still happy with it. Even now I find new ways to use it. I had a Canon Eos 30 before I bought this one,but I have learned much more about System Cameras from this Z1 than fron the Eos.Now I´am thinking about byuing a new camera,probably a Minolta 5D. 2006-03-07
