I bought this camera 18m ago to replace a Kodak point & shoot. I wanted more control and this camera offered a lot for not a lot of money. I also liked the CF cards, AA batteries, even it meant more bulk. On the plus side, the lens is truly amazing: 4x zoom, sharp, very little distorsion, very little chromatic aberrations. When in focus, image quality is top class. Another interesting thing is that the camera is very sensitive to IR. With an IR filter on it, it is pretty easy to take nice IR ...

I bought the Minolta S414 last June, and since then I have used it almost daily under every imaginable condition. I am proud to say I succeeded in getting nearly 100 photos accepted at www.railpictures.net with this camera, and these photos combined have been viewed individually over 12,000 times, according to the site's counters. I have had at least 1,000 photos rejected however, and most often the reason was "image too dark." For this reason I call the S414 my "sunny day" camera. On a nice ...

I've seen better... many times. I hope that's it's just my unit, but there were no physical or software issues with this camera in the 2 years I had it. 3000 Pictures on the camera and I am looking for another one after being very frustrated with the quality of pictures. Of the 3000 maybe 100-200 are really keepers, the rest is a prime candidate for "Photoshop Quality Touch Up Time". There are other issues with the camera (see below). The camera has decent software (the camera ...

In the time I've used this camera I've gone from hating it to thinking it's one of the best 4mp cameras I've used, however it has some serious flaws. The worst of these is a manufacturing fault, the use of a low-quality CF physical interface (v. soft & pliable pins), leading to some pins being slowly pushed back 'into the camera' eventually it stops responding to larger cards (probably smaller cards over time), the first time it went back to Minolta (who dealt with the problem very quickly ...

This was one of my many digital cameras. Previous cameras: Fuji-DX10, Casio QV-3000, Sanyo-SX550, Canon Pro90, Olympus C-4040, Nikon 800, Minolta 7Hi. Now I have the Nikon 800, 2 Megapixel, 1999 generation and the Minolta 7Hi. I took Minolta S414 with high expectation and finally I was disappointed. Good things: good quality lens, use AA Ni-MH and CF. Very good image quality from time to time. Price is very good. Zoom range good. But here the good things stops. Problems: What I don?t like: - ...

Nice little camera - though maybe little isnt the right word. It's a bit chunky and wont fit in your pocket as easily as some others. It's also fairly heavy, so if it does go in your pocket you'll know it's there. Apart from that, I'm quite happy with this purchase. I've used it in all sorts of places and it's never failed to give me some sort of reasonable picture, though sometimes, indoors, the flash can fade around the edges of your picture. In outdoor daylight situations, I've yet to see ...

Physical looks are good as is the physical size. I like beefy cameras and this one was fine. Usage of AA batteries is great. Problems: Horrible autofocus results. Even on a tripod I had a ratio of about 50/50. Manual focus not much better. Moved to a Canon G5 despite the G5's problems, and haven't looked back since. To be fair, my Minolta may have had a focus problem, all of them may not share the same affliction. Image quality when in focus was fairly flat. I had to run all photos through ...

Dear Simon Maso, You mentioned the info below: which on-line site did you get the camera at? I have the wonderful S404 and may buy the S414 as a gift. Thanks, Ed Kohl ------------------------------------------------------------------ Great camera! I got it online for $304 only. With two sets of batteries, a charger, and a 128 or 256 mb card, you'll get amazing pictures. It is easy to use, even without reading the whole manual. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a 4.0 megapixel camera.

I have previously advertised a great review for this camera but I have to take it back. I have owned this camera for 5 weeks when one day I found dust particles inside the lens !!! I carefully examined the camera and found that some dust particles have also entered the LCD screen and upper control panel. I decided to search the web to see if anyone else has complained about this (since my cameras body was not damaged) and found two other people that complained about such a problem (one of ...
