Minolta DiMAGE S414

Found camera realy easy to use. In auto mode just point and click. I've now gone over to manual for my plane-spotting and use spot focus and apature priority and works realy well. When spotting I set EV to +0.3 and no problems with lighting. Also too pictures on my holiday in Hawaii and no problems there. Problems: It is impossible for a french speaking canadien to obtain access to french informations on the Minolta site. As Minolta no longer supply technical informations regarding their products to resellers it become impossible to get those informations.

I don't understand why Milnolta digital cameras are not as popular as Canon. S414 seems be very compatitive with Canon S45. It costs a lot less. This camera can work as a simple point-n-shoot. It also has several manual modes. I mostly use Auto mode. I found no real reason to go with the manual mode most of the time. Controls are easy and well positioned. Has the previous reviewer fixed the strap correctly, I'm sure my strap could take my body weight! Bought a week ago for £199 in the UK. Excellent value for money. I generally use aperture priority, spot focus and (mostly) 256 point metering and it does a good job for the outdoor / nature / gardening shots I take. The S414 is my first digital camera. My girlfriend has a Canon EOS 300 SLR. Both are great camera's. Only problem is the short battery-time of the batteries included. So I bought a 4-pack 2100 mAh and I probably do much longer with these. Bought it just 2 days ago so have not figured everything out yet! Problems: There wasn't a 6V-adaptor (AC-2L) included. Don't know if I can use any other adaptor of the same voltage (6V Europe).

I had the camera for one day and I send it back ! I can only juge the "Construction" attrinute .... may be the other attributes are excellent ! Problems: Very hight power consumtion, after 20 to 30 shots the bateries are low and the device autoamticaly shut down ..... Where is the advantage of digital camera if any 30 shots you have to buy or charge new bateries ! My advice: do not buy this camera if you dont have a nuclear power generator in your pocket !

This is my first digital camera and I am very satisfied with the camera, It takes incredible photos and it's easy to use. Problems: No problems so far.

Camera takes INCREDIBLE photos. They are very sharp, even when enlarged by 2 or 3 times. If you are considering showing your photos as a slide-show on a TV, or blowing up your photos, this 4 MP camera is hard to beat. DiMage editing software is fairly easy to use. As a regular medium format and 35mm user, I thought I would try the S414 as a firts step into the world of digital cameras. The camera has surprised me with its image quality (full A4 prints are superb) ease of use and a useful degree of manual control.
