I'm using this 4 years and i'm still very satisfied about the image quality (which matters the most 2me). Takes high quality pix, the lense is outstanding ! Still use it next 2 my Nikon D70s as a backup. If you are not in a hurry this camera can even take pix under extreme conditions. Problems: high battery-use closing lid of battery-compartment cracks/breaks (with many users) QUESTION Anybody knows the maximum size for Compact Flash Memory Cards this cam will take ??

Here are some real pros to this camera that I really wish would be incorporated into ALL digital cameras: 1) Regular AA batteries. This is a MUST for me on a camera. I don't want a bunch of expensive, strange, and/or proprietary batteries and/or chargers. ALL digital cameras eat batteries quickly. Get a camera that uses regular (like AA) batteries, lots of high-capacity rechargable AA batteries, and a quick (15-minute) battery charger. Batteries will then NEVER be a problem. I have ruled ...

I bought the wrong camera really. This is a snapshot camera but even for this purpose its performance is poor. The autofocus is absolutely useless and countless good photos have been completely ruined. I have to use manual focus for every photo which is not user friendly with the camers focussing to minimum distance every time you turn it on. Image quality is ok when in focus and the camera is strongly made. I have dropped it onto tarmac with only minor damage. Problems: Apart from the ...

I bought this camera 18m ago to replace a Kodak point & shoot. I wanted more control and this camera offered a lot for not a lot of money. I also liked the CF cards, AA batteries, even it meant more bulk. On the plus side, the lens is truly amazing: 4x zoom, sharp, very little distorsion, very little chromatic aberrations. When in focus, image quality is top class. Another interesting thing is that the camera is very sensitive to IR. With an IR filter on it, it is pretty easy to take nice IR ...

Pros: Inexpensive for a 4 MegaPixel with 4x Optical Zoom Feature Rich Uses Non-Proprietary NiMh AA Batteries Feels Great In The Hand (especially on a cold day) Thankfully They've Discontinued This Model Cons: Inexpensive (Sucks people like my wife in) Battery door VERY difficult to close with batteries installed (something you'll be doing often with this model). Feels like it will quickly break off. Eats batteries for lunch but makes a great hand warmer within a couple minutes of turn on. ...

I bought the Minolta S414 last June, and since then I have used it almost daily under every imaginable condition. I am proud to say I succeeded in getting nearly 100 photos accepted at www.railpictures.net with this camera, and these photos combined have been viewed individually over 12,000 times, according to the site's counters. I have had at least 1,000 photos rejected however, and most often the reason was "image too dark." For this reason I call the S414 my "sunny day" camera. On a nice ...

I've seen better... many times. I hope that's it's just my unit, but there were no physical or software issues with this camera in the 2 years I had it. 3000 Pictures on the camera and I am looking for another one after being very frustrated with the quality of pictures. Of the 3000 maybe 100-200 are really keepers, the rest is a prime candidate for "Photoshop Quality Touch Up Time". There are other issues with the camera (see below). The camera has decent software (the camera ...

Using DiMAGE S414 Digicam for over six months now. It is my first Digicam and I am a seasoned SLR user. Found S414 a very well ergonimically designed strudy digicam with a lot of manual controls. Auto focus system of S414 is quite satisfactory though at very low light it fails occasionally but not always. Amazing picture quality at this price ! The Menu system is simple and the four way switch functional. The GT Zoom Lense is quiet and shot to shot lag time is pretty low. I don't miss my ...

In the time I've used this camera I've gone from hating it to thinking it's one of the best 4mp cameras I've used, however it has some serious flaws. The worst of these is a manufacturing fault, the use of a low-quality CF physical interface (v. soft & pliable pins), leading to some pins being slowly pushed back 'into the camera' eventually it stops responding to larger cards (probably smaller cards over time), the first time it went back to Minolta (who dealt with the problem very quickly ...
