Minolta DiMAGE A1

Cons: * Pictures are quite noisy. On average day-pictures you won't notice if you don't look close (but then you can see it), but in more darkness it get's more and more disturbing. No chance for long-exposure pictures. * It could be more light-sensitive. * It could have an autofocus-light. Pros: * It has all the functionality you would like and you can access many settings quickly with all the buttons on the camera (no need for going in the menu for most, also the more advanced ones, settings) ...

The fact that it has a fixed lens is cool, as it reduces any risk of dust getting inside. Long on Specs, Short on Permormance. I have had this camera for one year, chosen for the specs that Minolta published ( Bad Move! ). The Good: -Complete control over the way pictures are taken. -Manual Zoom, Anti-Shake, Long Battery Life, Well Balanced. Flex Focus Point. Decent pics if one fiddles around long enough before every shot to get it right. Finally! Minolta admits defective A1's All the problems I have had with this camera are real after all...Minolta says the CCD's are defective and will repair them free of charge, and they have issued a major recall. For the problems encountered please read my previous review. The guy that gave me all the bull about the camera being ok got fired at Minolta's Canadian unit... I wonder who wrote all these "glowing reports"....

The cameras only neet function is the antishake but this dose not give this camera a great value for the money. Problems: Noise in pictures on 100 ISO and good lighting. Hard to get focus to lock correct.

It's a good camera, easy to use with some interesting features. Problems: When the lens is set to 28mm (35 mmequiv) there is a coma shape shadow, this does not happen in focal distances above 50mm. Long exposures (above 8 seconds) will deliver some weird pixel formation in the image. If any other user had noticed it too I'd apreciate to read further comments

Problems: If you take a low light picture in RAW format is the picture still going to have noise?

This camera feels great. I really liked the way Minolta kept the zooming to manual rather then by push button. This saves a lot on the battery as no servos have to be powered. I also like the sensors for the LCD and EVF, as well as for the Auto Focus. Other things I liked were the software, which goes a lot in depth allowing you to change just about everything. I bought the A1 as follow up for the fuji s602Z. And although i'm still pleased with the 602, the A1 really is a much better camera. The only thing i personaly dislike is all the features which enable you to change color, contrast and the filter settings!
