My background is as a visual artist - used film SLRs so far. The A1 is quite a versatile camera. The zoom is just the right range and it is a true barrel zoom which is a million times better than the rocker switch type zoom on most other digital cameras. The image stabilisation REALLY does work - no need to carry a tripod around (unless you want to do long exposures, etc.). Autofocus is quite fast, but of course you will need to find contrast in low light. The camera is nice to hold and it is ...

Using my A1 for more then one year and 7500+ pictures on its counter I can only say it is a great tool. It never let me down. It has anything on board to tackle each situation as long as you don't want to take extreme close-ups or super zoomshots. Ofcourse it takes time till getting used to each functionality but it is worth the effort. Long battery life though I always have a second battery, just in case. This is the Swiss knife amongst digital prosumer camears. Problems: No problems ...

Long on Specs, Short on Permormance. I have had this camera for one year, chosen for the specs that Minolta published ( Bad Move! ). The Good: -Complete control over the way pictures are taken. -Manual Zoom, Anti-Shake, Long Battery Life, Well Balanced. Flex Focus Point. Decent pics if one fiddles around long enough before every shot to get it right. Problems: -Useless in Auto mode: It underexposes, AWB may or may not work, colour rendition is poor (greens are way too dark, whites are ...

Finally! Minolta admits defective A1's All the problems I have had with this camera are real after all...Minolta says the CCD's are defective and will repair them free of charge, and they have issued a major recall. For the problems encountered please read my previous review. The guy that gave me all the bull about the camera being ok got fired at Minolta's Canadian unit... I wonder who wrote all these "glowing reports"....

Have had this cam for one month so far - all the features you need and more. solid and pro build quality, complex but easy enough to use. photo quality is good but not great, but the lens is really good. good lcd in all light situations(rare feature), the battery is the best I've ever seen. This is no p&s camer- auto mode is not so hot, you need to push some buttons to get good pictures.. recommended for a serious photographer who likes a lot of controls! Not so cool: Big and bulky- not for ...

Great photographers camera. Gives total control over the parameters. Manual zoom is excellent, manual focus is nice via the lens ring. The tilting EVF is very handy, I barely use the big LCD screen. Anti Shake is great, it saved some shots for me. Image quality is good. I mainly shoot in RAW (on a 2.2Gb Microdrive) which gives good possebility to correct the picture afterwards without compromising image quality. This camera has some features and controls that even more expensice dSLR's not ...

Searched a long time to find affordable replacement for my very old Nikon SLR incl extras. Chose the A1 a couple of months ago. It has done very well and presented plenty of good images. Half the images discarded was due to wrong choise of feature. And this is the dilemma: The A1 has all the features I need + a few, and choosing learning to choose is complex and may take time. Problems: As others I would really like a batteri remain indicator in percentages or? I would also like a cheaper ...

I have had this camera for 7 months now. I aam completely satisfied with it. In fact a couple of says back I was evaluating different cameras for a friend and I still think the A1 is the one that offers the most value for money. One thing potential buyers have to bear in mind is that this is no point and shoot camera, to get the maximum out of the camera you will have to do some post processing. I personally like the fact that the camera does not manipulate the images. Problems: Wish they had ...
