Opinion: I have had my 760 for two weeks and its the best camera I have ever
owned....D1...forget em.!!
I have now owned my camera for almost one year, and in that time I
have watched my clients opinion of Digital work and the digital
workflow move from refusal to using digital capture to absolute
amazement at the speed and quality. I am truely amazed at the
camera's ability to produce images of this quality. Everything about it is
great, from the batteries, to the ability to incamera process of tiff and
ERI files. Holding 2 cards is a brilliant idea, and being able to work
tethered on location or in studio is a hige plus over other cameras.
Opinion: I have a dcs760 with the new verision 2 software. It now works a lot better on long shutter exposures, with less noise. However, the general noise/white balance is still messed up. It seems like the three ccd colors (rbg) do not track each other closely at different light intensities. This causes color drift. When the white balance is correct at high light levels, shadow areas of the picture have a strong blue cast. This can be fixed in Photoshop, (with the curves command-blue channel) but it is a real pain. Hopefully this will get fixed.
Opinion: I have been a photographer for more than 50 years. This camera is amazing. I feel every photo I am going to take will be the best one I have ever exposed.
A couple of things. I wish Kodak had made a small manual that could be taken on jobs especially out of town jobs. Next thing the battery. Why does the battery drain when it is in the camera? Firmware can be lost if battery stays out of camera for too long. All, said, I really like this camera. I also like Kodak's support of this item.
Opinion: Being mainly a Graphic Art Studio Manager for over 30 Years (and having
a digital photo studio for over 6 years) my main concerns was with print
reproduction from a Digital Camera. DCS760 has given me among the
sharpest and best digital pictures I have experienced. Upon deciding
which camera to purchase Comparing both this camera tor Nikon D1X,
boiled down to color considerations. Nikon had a lot more intense colors
(Saturation) from the initial shot and I gave the 760 a slight edge in
sharpness. Utilizing the software Capture Studio I found I could easily
pump up the DCS760's saturation similar Nikon if needed in the Raw
Image. This is great software for color correction & conversions.
The camera also tandems into the computer excellently and I am happy I
chosed the DCS760.
Problems: The battery if allowed to uncharge (which is possible if left in the
camera) can not recharged in Kodak's present charger...hope Kodak is
working on a solution. You can not utilize Red Eye correction of SB-28x
Speedlight with this camera (You can with Nikon D1x).
