Opinion: I think Kodak finally got it right. This camera proves you don't need more than 5 megapixels. JPG fine setting images are very good, I have printed 12 x 18 jpg images and was impressed. Awesome lens, and finally a RAW format. Only had the camera for a little over a week and am really happy with image quality, a major problem on previous Kodak cameras. I just wished they used the same RAW format as their pro cameras. But as soon as Photoshop offers a RAW update for this camera that won't be a problem.
Problems: Very slow write in RAW mode, AE AF button is in bad location. Auto focus should be better indoors.
Opinion: A great camera with a host of features - 5MP, 12X optical zoom, IS, hotshoe,
quality lens, 30fps VGA movie mode (with usable zoom in movie mode), TIFF &
RAW formats, live histogram, hi-res 2.5" LCD, time lapse, ...
A worthy update to the Z750.
Takes quality pictures - auto chooses the lowest ISO speed available from a wide
range never before seen, fantastic Kodak color & white balance. Sharpness, Noise
reduction options, etc. Lens shows no CA or purple fringing.
Is fast enough 0.4s click to capture, 1.7s shot to shot, 2.3 fps burst.
On zoom the image will be blurred, if you keep your finger on the shutter button it
focuses fast - i find focusing fast.
Has a great 'programmable' button, which allows you to set useful functions (mine
is set to Picture format).
Excellent low-light capabilities and greatly improved over the 7590.
Well constructed, feels and looks classy.
In non-auto modes, remembers the settings you last chose.
Excellent Kodak accessories available - printer dock recommended.
The more you use the camera the more will get to like it!
I very highly recommend this camera - it is well designed, easy to use, packed with
features allowing a user to grow in capability and produces fantastic quality photos.
Problems: This is a great camera, some areas it could be improved on-
RAW support needs to be added to the Kodak Easyshare program for the Mac (i am
sure it will be over time, would have been good if it was from the start). Good if
Photoshop could support the Kodak RAW format too.
The flash automatically pops up in auto mode (unlike the 7590), which you may
need to set to off each time the camera is turned on.
Unlike the 7590, which changed settings on a button click, the P850 will display a
menu for you to use the joystick to select an option - works well, but i prefer the
button approach.
Zoom is a little noisy.
Would be nice if it came with a wrist strap (instead of the neck strap).
Opinion: IS lens, 2.5" LCD, great shots, great zoom, much better choice over the H1.
I still rather have an S2 IS
Problems: white balance issues...but typical of auto settings
Opinion: This is the first Kodak Digital Camera I purchased and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. I am very pleased with the quality and colors of the photographs I've taken. The IS feature is great and the 12x zoom is exactly what I have been looking for. I was even able to "shoot the moon" with this camera. The price point is good and the fact that it shoots raw and tiff were selling points for me along with the hot shoe for external flash. The contols are well placed and I was able to learn to use this camera is a few days. Oh, and the LCD is great - easy viewing. No eye strain.
Problems: My only problem I have is the lack of raw support with Photoshop and other programs. You have to use the Kodak easyshare software to process the raw files which is not bad but I like to have other options.
