Opinion: I bought this camera because of the versatility that it offers. For its size and price
it shines through all the way. You can attach a telephoto lens and a macro lens
sold as accesories. The viewfinder is big and the menu options easy to use. the
image quality is clear in daylight and with the use of the flash.

Problems: Some of the exposure features are limited in certain modes, for example, if you
want to shoot at 800 ASA then the camera has to be set for 1.1 megapixels. In
general, when used in dim light it struggles to provide full access to its full
aperture potentials.

Opinion: I had the Kodak DX7440 since 4 weeks. It is a good 4 MP (2304x1712) compact camera for a very reasonable price. It is of reasonable size, compact, but not that thin as some of the more recent ultra-compact camera. It has a comfortable grip, which allows to hold the camera steady even at lower shutter speeds. The operation is o.k., although all settings (aperture, shutter) are done with the ring and not with the 4-way controller, but even the ISO sensitivity is easily adjusted.

Advantages
- very fast operation (shot to shot speed less than 1 s incl. focus)
- fast playback
- large good quality display (gains up in the dark)
- good quality 4x wide angle (33 mm - 132 mm) zoom lense
- full manual operation
- shutter speeds up to 64 s
- ISO 800 (at 1.1 MP) usable for 6x4 prints
- good automatic white balance
- good low light focussing
- surprisingly good video quality at 13 fps (640x480), motion seems fluid, even camera shake is not a problem (that seems strange, given the jerky quality 15 fps modes of other cameras)
- everything works fine with low speed memory cards (e.g. Viking 256 MB)
- sharpening and saturation adjustment
- good picture quality
- good optical view finder with diopter correction (hard to find on other compact cameras)

Problems: - no contrast adjustment
- no custom white balance
- no manual focus
- self-timer switches off after each shot taken
- no autofocus in movie mode (focus remains fixed on object after the shutter button has been pressed)
- aperture range limited: 2.8-5.6 at wide angle and 4.8-9.5 at tele
- zoom not smooth (8 steps)
- high noise reduction at ISO 200 and 400 (this might be an advantage, if you want to print straight from the camera)

Opinion: This is my 5th Kodak Digital and by far the best. All features are of professional standards, easy to use and such a variety of settings. Some complaints of the rubber covering on the USB port are exaggerated, mine snaps in securely. I agree with the diopter complaints that the wheel turns hard and there is not enough variance of adjustment to your vision. If anyone has trouble with the lens adaptor using an add on lens where the camera lens jams by not being able to be fully extended, do this. Add a 37mm filter on the adaptor, then attach the add on. this will allow your camera lens to extend fully without jamming, like mine did. Thanks to Kodak Tech Dept. for alerting me to this. Digital zoom to the fullest presents a great picture, not like some digital zooms. Quality of pictures is great, colors are fabulous. Easy to transfer to your computer using the USB cable. No need to buy an expensive dock. I bought a Klick 5001 1700Mah battery which I use and keep the other one for a spare. When charging a battery, insert your spare so you won't loose the settings. Should have a spare battery anyway just in case. Movie mode is very good and custom settings are fun to play with. Almost of professional quality. I bought it on Ebay for $135.51 Refurbished and haven't been sorry. After 3 months of using it, the camera has found a new home.

Problems: Nothing serious. I would only suggest that the slide cover in the battery compartment have a little tighter snap to secure it better, but if it should open, which it did with me, the battery or the memory card will not fall out or hinder your picture taking. One other word of caution, be careful when removing or inserting your battery. Take care to open the little orange tab to the side before you attempt to insert or remove. It is fragile but with a little TLC you shouldn't have any problems with it breaking off.

Opinion: I have had this camera about one year. The picture quality, speed of operation, lcd size and clarity, low light performance,4xoptical zoom, vivid color, scene modes, simplicity, durability and ability to grow in skill makes this inexpensive camera a gem for novices as well as more experienced photographers. I have taken thousands of excellent pictures. The prints made from this camera are clear, detailed with beautiful color even at 11x14. I highly reccomend the DX 7440.

Problems: I have encountered no problems as yet. The rubber door that shields the USB and AV connections has been referred to as flimsy. With reasonable care in handling,I think it will last indefinitely.

Opinion: An ok camera.
It's vastly superior to my old Kodak LS443. If this thing can work for more than 2 years without major repairs I may consider Kodak for future purchases.
I don't like the zoom button - I prefered my LS443 for that. The manual controls I also find awkward - having to push a small wheel.
I also miss the fill-flash setting that was on the LS443 - although the auto flash on the 7440 is vastly superior to the gawd awful LS443.
The LCD is also well above the one in the LS443 - about typical based upon some Sony cameras I've used.
The camera is quieter and gives the impression of being a more solid mechanical design than the LS443 - but I am waiting to see if this thing can even work a year or two before I suggest that anyone consider this camera.
The camera does not seem to have the out-of-focus problem at zoom while fully stoped down like the LS443 and I don't have a defective memory card to test how well it handles failing memory (the LS443 does it by corrupting pictures and the memory card).
I've also not tested it in the forest to see if it "corrects" for the greeness and puts a purple cast on things like the LS443.
The "share" button is a waste. Kodak - just make cameras that are reliable and work before you start to put glitzy crap that nobody wants or needs!
The pictures are generally super saturated - this is what I've come to expect of Kodak cameras. Funny - it's not what I expect of Kodak professional films - quite the opposite!

Opinion: Poor color, I don't know what everyone else is talking about. The zoom is nice - but the usb plug in flap deal is really cheap. Don't like where the battery goes either, it can easily flip open while taking a picture. Cool video features though. XOXO

Opinion: While I like the features and feel of this camera, I don't think that it's very solidly built. Particularly flimsy is the door for the battery/memory card compartment and the battery retaining clip. I read on CNET where it's not uncommon for the battery retaining clip (the little yellow thing) to snap off. The 7440 is an excellent buy, but more solid construction would have been a plus.

Problems: None.

Opinion: I looked for digital camera for about six months. I test 31 cameras and I chose one. Kodak 7440 with kingstone SD 256s memory, case logic case and standard batery. With standard batery I just make 174 photos and 5 movies (9 movies). 4x zoom is is good and 16 auto modes too. I can take a photo when somobody is moving and when sun is on back. Movies are sharp and nice specialy in daylight.
