Opinion: Just got this camera today and so far it has lived up to the reviews from Kodak.
Problems: software is not stable.
Opinion: So I just decided to upgrade from a DX6440 after checking this new release out at the store. Here is what drove me to purchase this one:
1) Fast and responsive, starts quickly, zoom review fast
2) High, medium, and low color saturation options, in addition to excellent B&W and Sapia mode
3) Two modes of JPG compression (Fine and Standard)
4) Controls!!! (metering mode, exposure bracketing, etc)
5) Feel, build quality, and form factor
6) Outstanding Kodak color balance (my wife says pictures just look better)
7) Usability (Getting to Macro shots, navigating program mode scenes, clear menus, excellent screen)
8) Its fun.
I got this shot of my daughter yesterday in the filtered sun that reminded me of shots I've taken with slides. Excellent stuff. The overall impression is that Kodak listened to all prior feedback and incorporated virtually everything into this one. An excellent camera!
Problems: None yet.
Opinion: Learned quickly, immediately began taking excellent pics. The Auto mode is very acceptable in most situations.
Problems: Battery lasts decently long, but go ahead and buy the larger version (stated that it's for the 6490).
Opinion: My previous camera was the Kodak 6440 and before that I used the Nikon F801s. The 7440 has slightly too warm colors, the Lithium Ion accu works fine but of course these batteries are a con compared to the simple AA-batteries of the 6440. The Kodak software does not play the video's recorded by the Kodak! The camera has a real manual mode (better than the 6440), however it can not be used in a very ergonomic way. The automatic mode performs well under most conditions. The 7440 is slightly larger than the 6440.
Problems: -enclosed software does not play video's
-colors too warm
-Lithium accu not as handy as simple AA-batteries
-2.2 inch display is nice but not very bright, so it cannot be used on the beach.
