Opinion: I purchased this camera due to it's ease of use for a beginner. During the camera's initial battery life it performed exceptionally well and with ease but that soon changed when the batteries ran out and had to be replaced. Once changed the camera became slow, unresponsive and would close itself down after a small number of full resolution shots (normally 3 to 4) and unless I carried another set of fully charged batteries with me I had no hope of taking more pictures. When working it does take lovely photographs but these don't outweigh the hassle of swapping batteries (see below).
Problems: Battery/power problems - After a few frustrating attempts I've now made up a system so that I can take more photographs at full resolution. By taking the batteries out of the camera, leaving the camera for 5 minutes and re-inserting the batteries the camera seems to think that it's the first time it is being used and allows up to 10 shots before closing down. To continue taking shots, take the batteries out and repeat as above.
Opinion: I bought this cam not so long ago, and I can say I'm completely satisfied and I think it will make me happy for a long while.
I wasn't thinking about buying a digital cam, but once I received an email with a speciall offer. Then I started looking for some reviews and sample pictures taken with a DX4900. I found the results very satisfactory. I became very enthusiastic about buying this cam, and I DID! ;-)
As soon as I got my cam, I started taking pictures of everything thing I could see in front of me. I took my bike, went to a park nearby my house, and I took several shots. This cam makes me so happy, that everywhere I go, I take it with me.
The pictures are great. Quality is far more than perfect! I even bought a 128MB CF in order to take extra pictures! I'm now considering buying add-on lenses as well.
Problems: I haven't had any problem with my cam yet. I just don't like the picture transfer software. I also tried Easy Share 3.0 but I'm not completely satisfied. The pictures are numbered in a reverse order (the last picture taken becomes the first one). I compared this software to Canon transfer software, and Canon is much easier and gives you much more options. I really hope Kodak will change it into something better.
Opinion: I own the DX4900 and a Minolta 7HI and for 90% of my pictures the 4900 does just as good of a job as the $1200 Minolta. Not as many bells and whistles but also a lot easier to work. The auto focus on the 4900 is better than the Minolta. I take high compression, high resolution pictures on the Kodak and print 11x14 right out of the camera. No need to use Photoshop to improve on them. The only two drawbacks are the special battery and only 2x zoom. The docking station is a must as you get a rechargable battery and it is soooooo easy to download the pictures to the computer.

Problems: Got it wet one night in a flood that came in the front of the tent and out the back. It did not work well until it was completely dry but it has taken thousands of picture since, every one of them a great picture.
Opinion: CHEAP!! Bought 3 4900's and 2 broke no wonder why so many refurbished units are out there
Image quality for a 4.0 is GREAT nice 4x6 prints with this camera.
Problems: 1st camera breaks with less than 100 pictures shot, 2nd camera breaks after 8 months. 1 to go..
Opinion: I love the camera. It's easy to use and takes great pictures. I love the ease of use of the docking station too.
Opinion: The wait times to save are impossible. Otherwise a good camera, I sugest it as a very entry level cam for low end snapshots. If you are going for high resolution photos do not get this cam. The Jpeg compression leaves many artifacts, once again, fine for snaps, bad for photos, and cheap.
Opinion: Excellent sharpness without any hint of fringing ever. The absolute best lens sharpness I have seen in 5 different digital cameras I have tested. Dead-on color rendition. Good color saturation without going overboard, and camera gives detail in both shadows and highlights compared to other cameras tested by me. Easy to use menu. Light weight. Small size
Problems: Eats batteries fast. Included Nimh battery pack didn't make good contact at all and caused me no end of grief, but Lithium Ion and rechargeables worked just fine. Flash range kinda limited. Non-focusable optical viewfinder.
Opinion: This is my second digital camera and I have found it to be superb. The picture quality is excellent - printed photos look great even when they have been cropped and/or enlarged. The optional docking station works well.
Problems: The only things I would say against it are that it seems to take a while to save a photo and it is sometimes too easy to get a stray finger across the viewfinder.
Opinion: Have had this camera for a couple weeks and shot at least 150 shots. I am still using the single use lithium battery that came with the unit. Frankly, I am considering using only single use lithium in the future. They far outperform the rechargables, albeit a little pricey - $5 for 2.
My last camera was a Minolta 2300 Dimage 2 meg. The Kodak outperforms it in just about everyway. Very easy to use, intuitive, self-explanatory menus.
Picture quality far surpasses the Minolta 2 meg. I am especially happy with the flash results. The room is brightly filled without excessive shadowing behind the subject.
I did not buy the dock as I use my HP PHotosmart to transfer pics. Also have a separate charger for my rechargeable batterries if I decide to use them. Also really like my present photo program - Picasa. Give it a try, it is the easiest I have found yet. WWW.Picasa.net There is a free 2 week tryout.
For my pruposes, I am content with 4meg compressed mode. I see no difference in normal applications. I get beautiful 8 x 10's without pixelating.
Problems: So far no complaints.
