Opinion: This is my workhorse camera. I have used it since it first came on the market about 3 years ago. Awesome picture-taking ability. Very easy to use. Excellent use of battery power. Easy to understand features. Perfect camera for someone wanting to take top quality photos but who is new to digicams. Fabulous people pictures. Great true color. Never lets me down. Fits my hand very comfortably.
Problems: Not for the professional who wants manual control.
LCD screen cannot be seen outside.
LCD screen always get greasy because your nose lines up perfectly to touch it when looking through the viewfinder.
Opinion: Have been using this camera for about 1 1/2 yrs. I think it is a very underated camera. It is fully weatherproof and produces those excellent Kodak colors. I take it with me in all types of weather and terrain where I would not think of taking a digital camera. It is a good everyday camera that gives you very good results.
Problems: Had to send it back to Kodak for a safety recall re: possible electrical shock which I thankfully never experienced. Turn around time from Kodak was excellent-3 days. The downside is that there is no shutter or aperture control but it produces good results automatically.
Opinion: We use this camera on construction works, It is the only camera that could last as long in harsh places.
As far as picture quality and usability it's a 10/10.
We have many other brands at the office and this is the one everyone loves. Real good resolution ans outstanding color.
Opinion: At only 2 megapixils, it's the minimum quality I need. Very rugged, it survived a fall onto a stone curb in Spain and kept on operating until I could send it to Kodak for repair. Like many others, Kodak really does have good service. Easy to use menu make using all the features more likely. It will probably be a good second camera when I upgrade. Better colour than a Nikon Coolpix 950!
Problems: Summer outdoor shots generally overexposed. Aperature adjustment (-0.5) solved this.
Opinion: The following detailed review of this item was sent by email to me and I thought to post it here. This is a recall by Kodak and has been verified on their site. I have not rated this camera but instead left the default average setting for this posting.
Problems: CPSC, Eastman Kodak Company Announce Recall of DC5000-Model
Digital Cameras
WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC), Eastman Kodak Company, of Rochester, N.Y., is
voluntarily recalling about 75,000 DC5000-model digital cameras
worldwide. Due to a manufacturing defect, consumers using these cameras
can suffer an electrical shock.
Kodak has received 12 reports, including six in the U.S., of
consumers who experienced an electrical shock while changing batteries,
or installing or removing the memory card or USB cable. There have been
no reports of serious injury.
These are Kodak DC5000-model cameras. The brand name and model
number are written on the front of the camera at the bottom right-hand
corner. All DC5000 cameras carry a plate on the bottom of the camera
containing the Kodak product identifier reading "KJCAA" followed by an
eight-digit serial number. The serial number range is 01800001 through
11700825.
Department, electronic, computer and camera stores, as well as
mail-order and web retailers sold these cameras nationwide from June
2000 through August 2002 for between $600 and $700.
Consumers should immediately stop using the Kodak DC5000 Zoom
Digital Camera and contact Kodak. The company will cover the cost of
inspection, any necessary repair and shipping to and from Kodak repair
centers. To receive a postage-paid mailer to return your camera, or for
more information, contact Kodak online at www.kodak.com. Consumers also
can contact Kodak toll-free at (888) 793-2977 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
ET Monday through Friday. For consumers outside the United States,

Opinion: Although it's heavy, slow and powerconsuming...I love this camera. I have tried a lot and the menu is still the best i've seen.
I own the camera since November 2001 and have taken over 3000 pictures. The image quality is superb, the menu is easy and the camera is beerproof. Too bad it's massive. Otherwise i would have had it with me a lot more. But the conditions (heavy snowboarding, snowblizzards, beaches) have never made me leave my camera. I even took it in a pool once.
Just don't go for this one if you want a fast, lightweighted, small camera.
Problems: one little peace of the lens cap broke. So the cap comes off very easy. Also on hot days the lens tend to gather some moist. So check it before you take the picture.
Opinion: I actually got this camera about 6 months ago and now sold it.
Construction: Extra durable. Very heavy. I like the sturdy rubber feel to it. Cannot plug in USB cable to camera with ease, it feels like I'm jamming in the plug. CF eject button flimsy.
Features: Lack features such as movie, audio, or other photographic adjustments capabilities
Image: EXCELLENT image quality for a 2M pixel. The autofocus is AMAZING. I can take a relatively focused picture in a pitch dark room with flash. Colour temperature is good. The flash is extra strong, sometimes too strong for interior. No problems with interior low light focus with flash. No problems with outdoor.
Ease: This is totally a no brainer camera. Just point and shoot and set everything to Auto and you'll have an image that rival 3M pixel cameras. The zoom W/T is reversed in my opinion. I rather have the T/W settings.
Value: Excellent. Nuff said for a $220USD camera.
Problems: Not enough internal buffer. Can only take 3 consecutive pictures before the buffer is filled. Very slow writing to memory, when buffer filled it would take around 1 minute to write to memory.
Not a camera to take continuous pictures from.
Opinion: I purchased this camera for my parents after returning a DX3500 and DX3900. (So much barrel distortion on close up photos) They love the fact that it is bigger and easier for them to hold. They were afraid of dropping the other two. The color and focus are superior. I got it on EBAY at the Kodak Factory Direct Auction for $216. Can you believe that! It is remanufactured and guaranteed by Kodak for 1 year. That is better than a new one because they have the bugs worked out. It shipped in 3 days. My parents love it!
Problems: Have had it for a month and no problems to date.
Opinion: If you are in a remote location and depend on the shot, don't use this camera if electricity is not handy.
Problems: Microcode Problems -- Camera Locks up -- allegid fix is documented on Kodak Web Site -- But at this moment camera is back at Kodak to get unlocked. -- Per their tech if you take pictures to fast the camera can lock up.
