Opinion: I bought this camera 3 years ago because I wanted an easy to use camera and a cheap one. It seems to be exactly what i want. It doesn't have the features of a dslr but it is ideal for a quick snapshot. I regret only the long shutterlag and the noise in the picture in poor light conditions. I also think the flash is not strong enough.
Conclusion: a no nonsens camera worth its money.

Problems: Never encountered any problem with the camera itself but the software that came along with it is fa from perfect: one day the memory card inside the camera broke during a tranfer of pictures and destroyed the kodak software on my pc. I never have been able to reinstall it exept the driver for the camera. Updates and patches for the software were useless. I now use acdsee.....Am I the only one or are there others?

Opinion: My husband and I have had this camera for about 2 years now.
It is very light and portable, and easy to carry around the various places that we have travelled to, and it is fairly fast to whip out of a pocket, turn on, and get ready to go.
The picture quality is not great, (it is only 3.2 MP) but for most people who just want a cheap camera that take good vacation pictures, this is a good camera for the money.
It has been dropped a couple of times and it still works. even though the case feels like cheap plastic, it seems to hold up well.
The flash is a bit slow from picture to picture, but not prohibitively so.
The battery and card slots are seperate, which is good, so the batteries won't fall when you pull out the card.

Problems: The main problem we have is a problem with the memory card. The camera either says that it needs to be formatted or it can't see it. I believe that is a problem with the memory card, and not the camera, but since I have not tested a different card, I cannot say for sure.
The other issue I have is the movie mode.
Why include a movie mode if there is no sound? You can take video, but it is silent video. That is pretty useless to me, I and I have only used the video, mostly to test it, only twice. If I want to record something, it would make sense to be able to hear it as well as see it.
The little hand strap isn't really all that practical, and can accidentally swing into the shot if you are not careful. It has happened a few times to me. I would rather not have the strap at all, but it doesn't look like it is removable (without trying to slice into the strap with a knife).

Overall, (assuming the memory issue is the card) there are no huge complaints.

Opinion: I bought this camera almost 2 years ago and I haven't had any major problems w/ it. It's a very easy to use camera(i was even able to teach my technolgically troubled parents how to use it).

Problems: If you zoom too much, the picture comes out really grainy and blury. And a few months ago the delete button stopped working! so now i have to get the pictures removed when i upload it online. No matter what brand of AA batteries I buy, it always dies REALLY fast!

Opinion: This is a great camera for the money, especially if you are only going to use normal sized prints or put them on the internet. I have taken well over 2500 pictures with this camera and I have had surprising good results in a variety of situations. Night pictures don't really come out well. The lack of zoom can be annoying at times, but it has its advantages as well (longer battery life, less moving parts to fail). I bought this camera while I was traveling in Australia and have taken it to New Zealand, the UK, Yosemite National Park and on numerous other outdoor excursions. It has held up exceptionally, much more than I ever could have expected. It has great battery life as well, in Yosemite I took over 420 pictures on one set of energizer lithium AAs (that is 420 pictures that I kept; I deleted a lot of pictures while reviewing them at night.)

If you are looking for a camera to take traveling I can't say enough about this one's advantages: great battery life, no zoom (I have seen cameras ruined on trips when something like sand got into the zoom mechanisms; if you think you would like to zoom in just take a couple of steps forward), it looks cheap so its not likely to get stolen (it is cheap, so if it does get stolen the biggest loss is your pictures), it is small enough to fit in loose pockets (easy access means more pictures which means more good/great pictures), and it takes AA batteries (wherever you go, they will have AA's).

I am looking for a new camera at the moment, mainly because I want something that takes better pictures at night and has higher resolution

Problems: cracked the lenses cover once, kodak fixed it no questions asked.

Opinion: The image quality is good for the amount of money you spend on this camera.

I would reccomend this as a "starter" camera for most. Basic features allow ease of use and easy learning. Great software, but needs to include a photo enhancing program in the future.

Problems: Digital Zoom is a drag, no optical zoom makes this camera a "beginner'' camera. Digital Zoom makes the quality of pictures horrible when zooming.

Opinion: A basic but functional camera, picture quality reasonable for this price range. I bought it complete with the printer/dock but that was a waste of money as it will not load into my PC. I can load the images into the PC through the camera software to edit them but cannot export back to the printer/dock to print them off.

Problems: see above

Opinion: I worked in a photo lab for over two years, and I've seen a lot of good pictures and a lot of bad ones from all sorts of cameras. I got this camera about seven months ago as my first digital camera. (I've used other cameras such as the Kodak 850, the Canon Rebel XT, etc, but I can't afford an expensive camera.) I really like what Patrick Wils said about this camera, but I have to add something. If you want a good indoor shot, use a tripod and put it on "night" mode. Avoid using the flash if you can get away with it, but keep it STILL. Even with such a tiny aperture and a low ISO, this camera will give you a relatively long exposure time in night mode that will astound you for the price range. This isn't the camera you want to use for any sort of action shots unless you're in daylight, but if you do still photography like I do, this does the job. However, if you're a "keen amateur" hobbyist and you can afford something better, DO get something better. Spend a little more and get a camera with an adjustable f/stop, zoom, ISO, and exposure time.

Problems: I went to Key West and took almost a thousand pictures. One of them came out corrupt. It might have been my fault (like turning it off while storing the image), but I don't know. Other than that, I can't complain.

Opinion: My first digital camera. Bought for 100$ and sold for 100$ in India. Loved it. Helped me enter the exciting world of digital photography. Some pictures taken in this camera are so sweet, I use them as screen saver.

Problems: None. At this price point it gives more than what I can ask for.

Opinion: Owning a Canon EOS 10D, Canon A80 and Ixus30 I have made some comparisons (of course):
Positive points:
- little purple fringing and little flare
- decent resolution, good colours (not great), but it looks pretty enough as long as you won't print larger than 5x7". Kodak certainly has a prettier look than e.g. HP or cheap Panasonics.
- robust housing, not too tiny.
- can be used by grandmom
- good battery life (unlike earlier DX3600 etc.)
- Cheapest brand camera around, often on offer.
- always ready to shoot (learn from this, Canon!)
- predictable shutter lag (lens is fixed focus, fixed aperture), which is less worrysome than having to wait for 'it' to focus (like Canon A80 tends to do sometimes). It means less o.o.f. pics.
-It's EASY! (although Easyshare is marketing bullshit: you'll have to buy a docking station to connect to a printer, blabla and so on. Don't buy that stuff))

Negative points:
- Needs much light. Forget inside photography if it isn't very well lit, or use flash. What do you expect with a fixed f4.5 aperture and max. ISO200? Indoors you'll go to a shutter time of more than 1/10 s if not using flash. You try to keep that still.. (flash is always 1/60 s)
- Ugly flash: darkish in corners. Only good for closer shots.
- Shortest focus distance of about 80cm inhibits taking close portraits (lens is '37mm equivalent')
- no zoom limits your composition creativity.

Conclusion: What I like most is that it always fires with predictable focus result, but it will have to use flash under slighty dimmer situations.

Would I recommend it? Yes, if you pay less than 75$, unless the next cheapest thing is 99$ with zoomlens of comparable quality.

Get it 2nd hand, there's enough of them. It is certainly quicker, easier to use & less powerhungry than most older digicams offered at the same price!

Problems: A bit noisy compared to Canon Powershot digicams. (veeery noisy compared to DSLR). No problem for smaller prints.
