Opinion: Better than my Sony
Opinion: Solid camera lots of control, The menus are very easy to navagate! Color is good but with a slite redish tint using the flash speaking of flash some times to strong. Picture quality is a little grainy on monitor in best Jpg but 8x10 print outs on my epson 750 look great the Tif are much better and image qulity is better after I updated the Firmware. being able to upgrade Firmware is a very nice feature. HP help desk is execellent <2 min. I was talking to a live person that new every aspect of this camera. I like it!!
Problems: First one got hot after 4 to 5 min with LCD on (HP overnighted New Camera)
Opinion: I have been an avid photo buf for years (SLR) and have been waiting for a good digital camera for a few years now. This is a first class camera. I have had it now for a week and am more thrilled with it than when I first bought it. The Digta OS is brilliant. I can add my own scripts and program the camera (I even downloaded DOOM and can play it on the LCD screen!!! ... OK not photograph). The optics are nice (f/2.4 is the fastest in this camera class), it has an infrared remote so you do not need to fuss and hurry with the a 10 second countdown self-timer (another unique feature). The scripting allows you to automate all sorts of things and easily extend the camera functionality to suit your own tatse ... (i.e. add your own menus to the ones that come with the camrea). Often overlooked is the fact that this camera uses 10bits per colour (i.e. 0 to 1024 colour values) vs the normal 8 bits (0 to 256 colour values), so the pictures are very vivid. It is fully automatic and for seasoned photo bufs offers fully manual control too. For the 90% of the photography I do, this is a superb camera, much more than I expected. It looks, feels, and operates like a classy 35 mm point and shooter. The transition was trivial.
Problems: The burst (or continuous mode) is not as fast as I had liked, but is inkeeping with entry level SLRs. Other than that she's a keeper!
Opinion: EXCELLENT camera for the money. I originally purchased and used for about a month the 315 camera (see my review for that one). I was so impressed, I decided to upgrade to the 618. I wanted to have the ability to use manual focus. In addition to the manual focus, there are so many more features on this camera, that it is mind-boggling. The macro focus picture I took of a friends face showed every pore and blemish (so sorry, Harriet) - due to the
Problems: Optical viewfinder not aligned properly - especially noticeable using zoom. Some of this is expected but this camera was way out of tolerance. Hp quickly replaced camera and threw in new batteries. Their people were very helpful and friendly.
