Opinion: This is a very basic camera even for when it came out in 2000 when I bought it at full price. This was my very first camera and I loved it. Its still alive and kicking though replaced now by a Canon S50.

Very simple to use, good protection for the lens, 1 hand use with easy-to-reach buttons, LCD had great refresh rate even though it didn't have a movie feature, solid build.

Problems: Serious time between pushing the sutter to taking the picture. The problem esclated when using a larger CF card.
Even without the LCD turned on, it goes through batteries like nothing. Sometimes barely lasting the whole day on just the veiw finder.
Lacks any additional features considering I paid $400(can) for it 4 years ago.

Opinion: This was my first digital, only purchased because I'd just purchased an HP 750 printer, and could get a $100 rebate. At that point, I hadn’t even ever considered a digital camera. I figured for a point and shoot, it could be interesting. After the rebate, it cost me about $85, not bad.

In fact, it was been a great point and shoot, knowing that's what its for. It was the potential I saw in digital photography that not only propelled me to invest in a much better digital, the Fujifilm S602, but has related my trusty old Minolta Maxxum SLR to the camera bag for use only in special situations. However, the HP 315 has passed down to my 19 year old son who has used it extensively on his website, and when he’s working on his car and gets stumped, snaps a couple of shots, uploads them to a bulleting board, and within minutes, gets answers to his difficulty.

It has served itself well.

Problems: Even before I had looked at one other camera to replace it, I knew the digital zoom on the 315 was worthless. And the incredible time lag between pushing the shutter button and having it actually take the photo. Plus, any flash shots that had any background light that shined into the lens could really mess up the shot. But these are all minor items when you remember it is a pretty basic point and shoot, non-focusing camera.

Opinion: This is a decent camera for the money. It is very easy to use, as long as you know the eccentricities. There are, however, a lot of problems I've encountered that make this camera less than ideal to use.

Problems: Speaking of eccentricities, you need to get used to the time it takes between pressing the shutter button and when the actual picture is taken. A lot of people who have tried to take pictures with this camera have not been able to see the little green light next to the viewfinder and end up just holding the button down until they *THINK* they've taken the picture.

Also, I've found that with bigger media (128mb CF Card for me), it takes really long for the picture to get saved to the card. I've waited almost 5 seconds from the time I snapped the picture until the camera was ready to snap again. Very frustrating, especially when you are trying to take a bunch of pictures in succession.

Battery consumption is a pain, but really only when you use the LCD a lot or when using the camera to unload pictures. Using a 128mb card, I had to get a card reader, which saves a lot on batteries.

Picture quality could be better, especially at the "higher resolutions", which in the case of this camera just means the same picture, just digitally scaled up.

Opinion: I have had this camera for over 2 years now. To date, I've taken over 1800 pictures with it. It definately needs a larger compact flash card. The 8 meg card that it came with as useless if you want high resolution. The pictures were ok. I bought it because it was the cheapest one on the market at the time. You most definately need a set of rechargeable batteries - NiMH so it lasts longer. I have a card reader so that saves on battery juice on the download especially because I have a 128 meg compact flash card.

Problems: I wish it had an optical zoom. The digital zoom I find is not clear. I can do that on the computer. The shutter is slow on the mark. There's a delay that you learn to compensate for but it's still annoying at times.

Opinion: Great camera, I have had it for over 2 years. I was thinking about getting another one but really like this one and was wondering if anyone has tryed to use the camera mount and other lens. Like the telephone lens 30mm, or the 30mm super close up lens? Would like to know if they work well.

Problems: Batteries have short life time, and sometimes the close up get blurry. But over all I like it!!!!! Great value for you money!!

Opinion: Good camera for the money. You can copy your photos in true print photografic paper (chemical process) with no difference for a conventional photo. Very good. Otherwise... (read problems...)

Problems: My camera becomes intermittent. It shuts off itself with no reason. To reset I should close and open the shutter again. The technical assistance says to buy another one paying the difference (have you heard something like this?). I should NOT buy another HP camera.

Opinion: It's obviously not the type of camera to get if you want loads of features but it serves well for snapshots and everyday uses. It produces good quality images that are great for it's time.

Opinion: Good, solid snapshot camera. Easy to use, good software,
good manual...just not full featured. Have two 315's, no
problems other than battery consumption when using the
LCD screen. Would like the trigger on the shutter to be
faster reacting. Can't really complain about the price, got
both of my cameras on clearance at Target at less than half
MSRP. Also got two HP825c printers effectively free with the
cameras. SWEETdeal! I gloat...sorry.

Problems: Problem: I would like to combine two images taken
simultaneously by my two 315's as a stereoscopic image.
The cameras have no remote electronic trigger or aperature
for a cable release. I have not devised a device or heard of a
after-market accessory which will facilitate the simultaneous
release of both shutters on both cameras. I would
appreciate anyone's help with the solution.
