Opinion: I've owned this camera now for three years. It is my first one. I use it in different ways, landscape, architecture, portrets, my grandkids and family. Despite the negative articles and controverse, i have no regrets, because the great dynamic range, different film modus and color are very well. I am shooting only in the raw format, developed with fujifilm raw. In my opinion the best there is for the S5pro, futher on with Silky pix and CS4. The S5 is built like a centurion tank, works perfectly with all my Nikon lenses. I printed all myself to A3+ with the R2400, excellent. The cost of this camera was a lot higher than at the moment €1800 to €700. A fine camera for my needs.
Opinion: I've owned this camera for three years. It was my retirement gift to myself. I use it for mostly pix of my grandkids, and for landscape photos. I previously used a Nikon D200, so it was very easy to use. Must say I prefer Nikon's menus, though. The S5 is built like a Mac Truck, just like the D200. Works perfectly with all my Nikon lenses and gadgets. In terms of features, it includes some which don't interest me, such as film emulation. Image quality is good to excellent, softer than Nikon, however I've learned to get around this by shooting RAW and doing my own sharpening in Photoshop. As a result, I've gotten excellent poster sized prints, and I'm not at all concerned about the 6 or 12 MP controversy. For use as a portrait camera, it is the best in the business, wonderful colour and perfect skin rendition. Its dynamic range capabilities was way ahead of the competition, although they're now catching up. Easy of use – except for having to dig into the menus too often, it's very easy to use. Recently, for the first time, I had to crank up the the ISO to 3200 and was pleasantly surprised at the noise control and clarity of the images. Since I not longer do photojournalism, I'm not concerned about the 2 1/2 frame per second limit, but I wouldn't recommend this camera for that purpose. The cost of this camera was a lot higher than its near twin D200, but I haven't regretted it. A fine camera for my needs.
Problems: None
Opinion: A little masterpiece...
Opinion: Excellent image quality good handeling (unlike the D300).
This is my 16th digital camera.
Problems: none
Opinion: Brilliant camera, which produces excellent images.....if the photographer is careful to try to get the best images straight from the camera.
Very tough body, with all the features I require, plus some more which I have yet to investigate fully.
I work at a semi-professional level, and it is easy to see that this camera has a professional heritage.
The learning curve is not too steep, if the maual and other user's advice is heeded.
Real value for money, which is a rarity these days.
Shame it is now discontinues, however, I am happy to have got mine in February of this year.
Problems: No problems found yet.
Opinion: Firstly, don't be put off by any review that was done on this camera when it was first released as it was more expensive than it's comparison, the D200. I got mine in Nov 2008 for £450 and I can't rate it high enough.
Build like a tank and very intuitive, I strongly recommend this camera to anyone who thinks that build quality, accurate colour and dynamic range of images are important.
Also, despite sounding a bit gimicky, the film simulation modes are actually very good.
Don't be put off by the apparent 'lack' of pixels, with its super CCD and used with good optics I beleive this camera can easily compete with it's 10-12mp rivals.
Choose Fujifilm's S5 Pro if you you want a very affordable pro-spec piece of kit.
Problems: Pros: Build quality, dust/water resistant body design (D200), intuitive controls, price and image quality (HDR & colours are outstanding)
Cons: Doesn't come with Fuji's RAW processing software.
Opinion: I brought this in Jan 09. i took more than 8000 pics.. most of them Industrial and pictorial.. very excellent mechine. basically i am Fuji lover.. of color, tone and sharpness.. I love my baby..
Problems: No problems... only i am little worried about why Fuji is not devoloping more better accesories like battery life, vertical grip and more important Fujinon lences for S5 pro.
if Fuji is looking at this... we all S5pro owners feel happy.
Opinion: Have had my S5 for a couple of months. Coming from Canon DSLRs. The S5 has exceeded my expecations! The DR is outstanding and image quality (sharpness, contrast) is great. It takes a while to get used to the menu but once you do, it is very logical. It also take some trial to figure out which camera settings give the desired IQ (we see this differently). Use it with the 50/1.8D and 18-70 Nikkor so far and the image quality from the 50 is outstanding. Definitely most "bang for the buck" of any Nikon lens.
Problems: None
Opinion: i have it now for 8 month and 10.000 shots. amazing tool and iam not a wedding photographer, i use it 90% for landscape and animal shooting
