Opinion: Had a chance to shoot my friend's S3 this weekend. I'm a little disappointed, in my opinion it's not that big of an improvement over the S2. People have been long awaiting the release of this camera, and with this kind of anticipation and hype, most will be disappointed.

Overall it feels nice in my hands, I love the vertical grip, and the images are good (not great, nor noticeably better). The controls take a bit of getting used to (I prefer the Nikon and Canon setup). But as far as other improvements, I found none great enough to make me run out and preorder this camera. I think they should have considered the option of having a lithium battery - more power, more efficient.

Problems: Slow continuous shooting speed - not good for fashion, sports, or even wedding candids/action shots.

I don't buy into the 12 megapixel (interpolated) quality. If it comes out 6 megapixel, it's 6 megapixel - why should I have to post process the images to get the higher res?

The "wider dynamic range" was unnoticeble on screen. I guess in order to really see the difference I'll have to compare large prints of same image from my own Nikon D1x or my Canon 20D, but I'm not going to because I have an idea how the results will turn out.

Opinion: Very interesting conversations over the last few weeks concerning the
new S3. I have been loyal to Fuji film for quite some Time using their
film and S2 to set up shots. I had high expectations for the new S3 at
first look I was disappointed seemed very slow not many improvements
then I started playing with some of the new features I realized I could
control the dynamic range settings this dramatically change the speed I
found if I played with the dynamic range setings the camera performed
quite well I was shooting 11 frames continuously And once the buffer
was full about one frame every 1 seconds after that. Don’t get me
wrong it's still painful In some situations But compared to the new Ds
shooting 11 in RAW at full resolution and the new D2X at 15 in RAW
considering the price different of nearly $6000 it’s not so bad granted
the Canon and the Nikon can shoot 5 fps against the S3 2fps. Moving
on I have tested the S3 against the S2 and there is a dramatic difference
in image quality I'm not 100 percent convinced I've made the right
choice yet but I will be putting it through its paces over the next few
days in fashion shoots and I will be putting it head to head with my S2
and D20 1D Mark 11 just to see the difference in image quality which I
feel is the bottom line. maybe our technology is just not there yet it
seems like it’s quality or speed how nice would it be to have both. I'll
post photographs and let you see. Still on the quest to find the ideal
Digital SLR.

Problems: Yes Makes my 1D Mark 11 look very digital.
