XP50 battery cover jammed shut

I've recently run into a problem where I can't open my battery cover to recharge the battery. The waterproof case safety is jammed shut. I've tried everything from cleaning it to trying to open it with a screwdriver, but nothing makes it budge. Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions?
