Opinion: Had it for abt 2 weeks now. Wide angle very useful. Max zoom is usable without a tripod. Image stabilizer works fine as well. Shots using the high ISO settings are usable. Image quality is average. This camera is worth the price tag.

Problems: Distortion at wide angles. But easily correctable using many softwares.

Opinion: I just got the camera today and I'm very pleased with it so far, pics shot with the 18X zoom fully extended came out great, my only complaint is that you can't zoom in and out during the movie mode like I can with my Fuji S700, make sure you read the supplied manual or you'll think the camera sucks however "AUTO" mode works great in most shots you'll take. If you hook up this camera to a computer using a USB cable, the camera's door for connection is very flimsy and feels like it's about to break off, get a memory card reader instead.

Problems: None so far

Opinion: I was one of the first to buy this camera, in the end of September 2007,
when there were not really any reviews on the internet. I made my decision based on forum posts here and in some Chinese forums ( I currently reside in China).
Hope I am helping now with this review others who want to buy
this great little camera.
The construction is good, very light and easy to carry or hold in one hand. The cover of the batteries wobbles under the touch, but it hasn't fallen out or caused a problem.

Features- plentiful. The Image Stabilization is very useful in high ISO, the burst mode is very good too.
The camera automatically bumps the ISO in Auto to 800 or 1600 when in zoom,
so better shoot in P mode if you want to control it ( or manual altogether). Tripod is advised when using the end of the zoom in anything but bright light.
Noise is visible around ISO 800,the lower ones look very good.
I'm impressed.
i went to the Aquarium in Beijing zoo, and took pictures of the dolphins. Back home i saw that the ISO is 1600, noise is visible in 100% crop, but for a simple viewing is great:)

I was using a canon before, and it took me time to get used to the new menus,
but now I'm quick.
Ease of use- very good. It starts fast, the menu is quick and logical, once i switch from my canon habits,
it's light enough to shoot single-handedly,
and in the same time with enough weight to be stable in my hand.
Value for money- absolutely a good purchase. Got it for about 320 euro ( equivalent of the price i payed in RMB here in China)
and I've been very happy.
I like the AA batteries, they give me the freedom to buy batteries everywhere when i run out of my rechargeable.
I shoot about 400 pics on one recharge, plus LCD viewing and zooming, and my batteries are not even the best ones,
they are old.
The lack or RAW support does not bother me, I am not professional, just a passionate about photography. Quick post processing in Photoshop, NeatImage and Picasa is enough, and the files are smaller to store on my hard drive..
I love the function that shows your pictures by the date they were taken on.
The EV is very good, the refresh rate enough, and i noticed that my pictures are lot less blurry when i use the EV,I guess cause the camera is held more firmly,
it's nice, it reminds me of using my old-old SLR Zenit, when i was a kid and just learning the basics.

All in all, a great camera for the money.

Not a professional one,but great for people who want to learn when they have time,
or shoot in auto when there's something happening quick.

Very happy with my purchase.

Problems: Blown highlights in bright sunlight, high ISO in Auto mode in a bright day , when on the end of the zoom.
Nothing serious that a P mode won't fix.

Opinion: Have had my s8000 for about 2 weeks now, and really like it. The zoom is the most outstanding feature going from a very wide angle shoot to an extreme telephoto. Works and focus's very fast. The big surprise about this camera is the ability to get decent pictures in very low light situations using ISO 1600 and even higher! I took this camera with me into a low light theatre situation and was able to get some unusual pictures that I never could have gotten on my Nikon or Pentax P&S.

Problems: None except that it looks like this camera does not accept filters as far as I can see. Would be nice to find a UV filter that works with it as the glare from direct shots into lights or the sun is powerful.
