Opinion: I've had this camera for about 2 months. It replaces a Canon Ixus V3. In comparison with that camera, the S5700 allows me to do much more - like I used to with my old SLRs. Image quality is at least as good as I could have hoped. I know some reviewers have been quite scathing about the image quality, but I can't say that I have noticed much wrong with images on screen or printed out at A4. There is some fringing in high contrast shots, but you do have to look for it. I am impressed with the macro facilities and again have not noticed the severe barrel distortion mentioned by some. Images taken at long zoom do benefit from some kind of bracing, but I find that using the EVF and a traditional hold go some way to improve matters. To me, using a VF is much more natural than squinting in sunlight at a screen. For the money, I think this is a very good value camera. My only regret now is that I paid full price for it at Currys and now its £70 cheaper.
Problems: The silver has worn off the lettering on the lens cap!
Edit 14/08/2007
I'm a little concerned that the lettering and symbols have worn off the buttons on the back after only 8 weeks of use.
Opinion: Handy little upscale camera is a bit better featured and more stable than typical p/s
Problems: Horrific barrel distortion at 38mm; very pronounced purple fringing throughout conditions.
Opinion: Pros.
love the manual settings no one else has F13.6
Battery life is great
controls take some getting used to but are very flexible
very clear pictures specially if you are not affraid to use a tripod
easy to add filters (46mm)
although I'm a novice I find its great because of the fact that you can have a greater creativity than a point and shoot and can also be used like it was a point and shoot.
Problems: wish it had an optical stabilizer
high ISO shots leave to be desired but the would be to expensive to get everything perfect.
Lots of blur in high contrast shots
Opinion: I bought this camera to replace my finepix s5600, only had it a week so far i like the set up up,but disappointed that the shutter speed only goes down to 4 secs unlike the s5600 went down to 15 secs in manual mode.
build quality is good, manual focus is better easer to use, like the improvement with self timer and image preview.
Problems: i have found the image quality not as good as the s5600, and i am returning the camera today(13 Aug 07) to Fuji because when using the camera in ether macro mode with the timer the red focus light stays on and can only be turned off by the power switch and has ruined the photo leaving a red light.
will keep you all updated what happens
I have now upgraded to a finepix s6500fd by far a better camera.
