Opinion: The good:
* DR (SR sensor similar to S3Pro, best DR for non-DSLR)
* RAW format
* external flash
* fast continuous shooting (4.5 fps)
* very good image quality, beautiful colors (so Fuji like)
* takes CF & XD mem cards (although not explicitely
specified in manual)
* low noise (even today 2008 & 4 years after release for
non-DSLR camera comparing to say A610, F10, F100 in par or better IMHO)
* very good micro (2 steps)
* good movie mode
* works great with Fuji camera control studio S/W (HU)

Problems: * lack of AF assistant light makes difficult to impassible to focus in poor/dimm light (very annoying)
* WB not very good/reliable (with firmware 1.0)
* lense some barrel distortions (and only up to 200mm, no stabilization)
* image sharpness dependent on ISO (@800 not that sharp overall); apparently it is the way Fuji's dealing with noise
* plastic body/plastic lense mount
* underexposes at least -0.5 (correctable) (like most Fujis)
* some cameras experience a sensor issue (my went after
2 years of use or around 2k shots, fortunately
fixed/replaced by Fuji service for free!) as reported on some forums
* was v. expensive when was released and pricewise couldn't compete with DSLRs than didn't gain a lot of popularity :(.
It was good to great camera when was released in 2004 but since market moved on & is driven by Megapixels..., this camera did not find much recognition. Also the initial price was a killer IMHO, way too much priced as some entry level DSLR were selling cheaper at the time. Could be also the camera hit the market a year too late.... It's aged over time and comparing to some new products on the market today the only cool thing of S20Pro remains its DR.

Opinion: Have the S9000 and wanted a digital for the wife. We bought the S20 and she has taken some nice pictures with it. We have printed pictures from 4X6 To 8X10 with excelent results. I love my S9000 but after useing her S20 I bought one for myself for work and evry day pictures. Showed it to our neighbor and they loved it, I bought all THREE cameras on Ebay from a seller of digitals all three were factory referbs. All three came in like brand new and no problems! It has some focus problems in low light but all the features of the camera make it a real nice camera for someone who know very little about photography to one who knows how to use a camera. The shutter cable release port on the camera allows you to take night shots and the pc link will allow you to use a stronger flash if needed or for use with studio lights. They feel great in your hand and not microscopic like some that I have looked at. Very close in size to a 35mm camera. My wife and I have taken some nice shots of landscapes in the area and our neighbor took theirs to Oregon on vacation and took some outstanding photos with theirs. He was a die hard film nut but is now totally into digital and the Fuji camera. I love all of our Fuji cameras for the construction of the camera the feel of the cameras and most of all the photos we are getting from them.

Opinion: My father borrowed it from a friend to shoot holiday pictures. I was impressed with the results, so I bought the same used. (It was a great deal.) The camera has excellent dynamic range and great low-light performance. Shooting low light pictures you have to practice a bit (use higher ISO sensitivity), or use a tripod. My holiday pictures are sharp, not a single focus error.

Pros:
Excellent dynamic range, ergonomics and build quality, lots of manual controls (F/11 aperture), RAW mode, good macro performer, fast continous shooting, accurate EVF, great low light performance, good focusing (w/o assist light), great movie mode, histogram, uses AA (4) batteries and CF card (not just XD card), good battery life.

Problems: Cons:
Some noise - ISO200 minimum sensitivity, bigger shutter lag in manual mode (0,4 second), no resolution/ISO button, 1M resolution after RAW (why?), some chromatic aberration, no assist light, some white balance errors in low light (I only experienced it in forest), adapter required for filters.

Opinion: Finepix S20 is just an incredible nice camera. Wouldn´t change it for any other camera. Bought it second-hand from a UK camerastore, live myself in Denmark. It seems that this model is being a "collectors item", it´s rare and cost a lot used, specially at the German market. I´ve bought the S602 when it arrived in 2002, it have been a very nice camera for me. Only few things to complain about; but when you get the S20 in your hands and using it, you will be astonised about it. It must be the nearest you come a perfect allround-camera.

RAW and JPG (only compessed 1:3!!)
High Dynamic Range from the incredible Fuji Super CCD SR sensor. Something you easily see on your photos.
Respectable low finegrained noise even at ISO800. My only wish, is that it would be nice, to have a ISO100 feature.
With Fuji XD-card type H, the S20 works very fast. Save RAW files in only 3 seconds and the buffer takes 10 JPG´s in continius mode at best quality and saves very fast. Perfect!
Nearly always takes well exposed pictures (as most Fuji cameras do).

I could mention a lot more nice things about this black pearl, but try one yourself. You will be satisfied.

Problems: Only to get one, but now I´ve have it, and sorry, I keep for sure, my S20. Good hunting!

Opinion: I've just acquired this camera after using an S5000 for a few years. The S20 pro is a better camera, with good optics, and a comprehensive range of features. Image quality is fine, and when enhanced by the wide angle and zoom lens attachments, this camera has a lot to offer. I've read some criticisms that the switches can turn themselves on or off in your camera bag. I've never had this problem and would put it down to clumsy handling-you can't manhandle a digital like it's some old analogue brick. You should always check settings anyway-this is standard good practise.

Problems: Can be a bit noisy-on some settings there's a lot of whirring and chirruping noises-doesn't bother me, but some users may not like this. I've never been keen on Fuji menus-there's a lot of toggling backwards and forwards to find the feature that you want, but this is really my only gripe.
It eats batteries, but don't they all?

Opinion: * high quality images with larger DR compared to other digital cameras
* good lens
* easy to hold and to carry around
* high quality movies

Problems: * often impossible to focus in low light / low contrast situation
* resolution of 3MP is not adequate for todays standard
* you need to shoot in RAW mode to get maximum detail and DR
* slow start up

Opinion: I bought the S20 because of the high dynamic range, but you have to use RAW format to achieve this high dynamic range. Besides that I think that dynamic range is very very important and despite the "RAW" necessarity the S20-Pro has better dynamic range than ALL DSLRs except the S3!
And I discovered that the S20 has very good low light abilities and delivers perfekt skin colors for portraiture, so this is my low light outdoor portraiture camera. Fuji is often a company where you see a lot of surprises, positive and negative, after buying a camera.

Problems: The MF/AF switch sometimes switches without permission in the bag, I lost photo series because the AF switch was in the wrong position. And when you set the RAW option from RAW to NON-RAW then the camera switches to 1MP. Naa, Fuji should test their cameras more for such issues, I want a camera where no such dangers are there, these issues can destroy complete photo series

Opinion: Great camera, I am very pleased with it. I bought it 2 weeks ago for a nice price. I like its beautiful colours and its many features. It feels good in my hands and although I still need the users manual, I don't feel as if it were too complicated. One reason to buy it was its fine macro-function, which indeed does a great job.

Problems: nothing really

Opinion: i've had this camera for a couple of months now and find that i really appreciate the image quality and speed, compared with other fixed-lens cameras. 3mp has been just enough for images up to 16" wide (for art on textured paper, not professional output). the extra sensors really are what make enlargements happen with this camera, bringing the image quality to more like a 5mp camera. this will be a true digital collector's item.

Problems: the price was still a little high when i bought it, but should be even better now. would have liked continuous shooting in raw.
