Opinion: I bought one on ebay (no longer in stores in USA) for my daughters wedding.
As father of the bride, I have unusual opportunities to take movies and stills not covered by the hired pro.
I needed a small still/movie camera good for 45 minutes of VGA movie and 150 stills. Together with a 2GB Sandisk Ultra 2 CF card, I achieved my goals.

Problems: I previously owned a F601Z so I am familiar with the Fuji.
I was unhappy with the build quality of the F601z which froze often and was charged a hefty amount for repairs that took over 12 weeks for fpr a freeze up problem common to many earky F601s.
I thought I would never buy another fuji from that bad experience but I did. To date, the M603 has no peer in terms of still/movie ability and pocket size.

Opinion: Well I actually got this camera by accident. My mum was in Malasiya on the 8th, October and I told her to get me the sony DSC-P10 but as she was about to buy it, the stupid store guy told her that Fujifilm was more popular and was a huge seller. My mum got completely dazzled by this and so she bought it. It was slightly cheaper than the Sony as well so it would be apparent that the store guy wasn't trying to cheat my mum out. Anyway I like this camera and the 2.5" LCD screen is fantastic. When I look at my friend's sony now, I'm thinking that I'm glad I didn't get it. There are a few quirks though which I will mention below. Anyway I was wondering one thing about this camera. The box states that it is a 3.0 Megapixel camera but in the functions menu, it goes up to 6MP. How is this? The battery life on the M603 is quite good though. The pictures are excellent in low light and also in day time. I even took some pics of my German Shepherd last night in total darkness and it still came out excellently as if there were light already. All in all, this is a good camera for picture quality. I am yet to have an under exposed shot or vice versa from this camera. Some people complain that there is no Firewire but only USB? Well why should that bother you? I mean USB 2.0 is afterall 480mbps whereas Firewire is only 400. Don't argue this point coz I have the Jessops guide to USB and firewire right in front of me. Most computers do come with at least 2 USB ports today so why worry? Anyway I hope some of my questions can be answered about my camera and also tell me if our accident of choosing Fujifilm over Sony P10 is a big mistake. Thanks you guys.

Problems: As for the problems with this cam, well so far, none as yet..except I would have thought the build quality could have been slightly improved. What I mean is that the zoom button looks and also feels very flimsy and loose but the body is fine. Another bad thing is that the cam is very hard to hold comfortably without poking other buttons at first. Anyway the cradle they give you is a bonus so I guess that makes it ok. Another bad thing is that the zoom is useless. It's only 38-76mm. What on earth can you do with that? The sony was better for this on the other hand but I read a few reviews on the mysterious yellow tint you get on skin tones when taking pictures. Also the greens look a bit artificial so I guess I'm glad I didnt get it. I think I will use my cam for about 6 months and then get me a Cannon EOS300 or something. What I don't like about this camera is that it doesnt have an optical view finder which makes framing really hard at night. I mean really, at night when there is no light around. You have to sort of guess where the subject is. Another thing is, the package and brochures claim that it comes with a 512mb card but all they gave me was a 128mb and that I had to pay extra for. The picture card is a 32mb. Well that's about it I guess. Hope my review was helpful.

Opinion: Well it's a great camera. Just to correct on a few posts made by other users, the microdrive this camera takes, and which is packed up with the premium kit (512 MB) is the cheapest memory available. if you look at any other memory, per megabyte the cost is lower with microdrive. for example, a 64MB CF card at about £20 is 3.2 megabytes per pound. microdrive however is about £180 for 1000 megabytes....working out at 5.5 megabytes per pound......convinced now? also considering standard cf runs at about 130 kps and microdrive runs at 5 MBPS....sound more appealing now?

Opinion: I like this camera, because it is small and I can take with it high quality pictures and movies.
Pictures are sharp, details are clear in pictures

Movie mode is excelent, but better compression is needed.

Problems: I would like better quality for sound recording (or
possiblity to connect external microphone)
Internal mic gives poor frequency range (only up to 8000 Hz)

Opinion: I got mine for £349 with the 16mb XD and 512mb MD !

This was value for money and swayed my decision, i didnt think i would buy this kind of camera but after 10mins testing it in my camera shop i was smitten.

With the settings on 6mp fine i have been very pleased with the image quality and on a couple of occasions bemused to tell the difference between it and my EOS10D !

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/davidjhardy/-=my-photos=-/fuji/connorsmall.jpg
My son leaping about taken without flash gave me a VERY pleasing sharp virtually noise free image.

The movies are of very high digicam quality so dont go comparing it to a DVcam becoz its not in that quality/price bracket, its just very very good for a digicam especially with such a FRate and Resolution.

This cam does everything its says it does so if you want a fun cam that does good movies and great pix for little cash then buy it , but it ya want HIGH quality then stump another grand for a EOS10D :o) bearing in mind i only wanted a cam to take quik snaps of my almost crawing daughter i got alot more than i bargined for !!

Buy one today you wont be disapointed.

Overview:
Buttons well layed out

Menu easy to use

Image quality brilliant @ this price !

MicroDrive is very fast @ storing images and movies (allmost instant)

Built well with near silent action (great for trainee CIA agents)

Handy extras (handle and screen hud)

Cam "Cradle" makes image transfer a doddle

Software disc is not needed with MS XP but is very easy to use anyway

Problems: A little bit awkward to hold but you get used to it.

Tobe really picky then i would say the build quality is a little shabby but its hardly noticable, allways got tobe a give and take and i think Fuji gave well.

Nothing else to say......It doesnt claim to be a EOS1D so if you expect more from it then you have bought the wrong camera :)

Opinion: I just bought it last two week, I love this camera so much,
it's handy and ease to use, and it's shape is great, specially the big colour 2.5" LCD screen, it's the best for previewing picture and movie clips, and 640 x 480 under 30fps is the main attraction for me to buy this camera,
movies and pictures taken are all great, so don't condemned this camera if you bought it, nothing it's perfect, if you expecting higher image quality just go for some 12 million pixel high-end cam, try to compare the price, the expectation of your needs, for me M603 just a perfection for me.

Problems: Great with xD card, not too compatible with compact flash when recording a video clip, may be it's the hardware buffer problem, hope the Fujifilm will release some firmware for upgrading and fix this problem.

Opinion: Corretion to last post:
1 - PAL and NTSC;
2 - Inglish operation menu;

Fantastic video qualities, and superb 6MPixels.

Problems: Memory cards with very high price.
1 GB IBM memory card = 15min video.

Opinion: DO NOT BUY NOKIA BATTERIES FOR THE 603. I got the batteries suggested above by Jeff today - both the blb-2 and the bld3 - and neither one of them will charge in the camera. What this tells me about these batteries is a) they do not ideally fit in the camera body and b) i wouldn't be surprised if they blew up. My Fuji batteries on the other hand, purchased in Japan, make the charging light go on right away and predictably there are no problems - Jeff, where did you get this "info"?

150 bucks wasted (thanks Jeff!) - just goes to show you don't believe every post you read on a photo site.

Problems: Nah, great camera, had a crap Leica D1 and an overly complicated and slow Nikon Coolpix 5000 before this - I feel sorry for those people who have to work with either lousy image quality (Leica) or a bad tactile experience (Coolpix). Fuji takes great shots and it SO user friendly.
