very easy to use well built camera EVF makes infra red so easy to use.. ive been takeing Infra red photos for about 5 years now with an Olympus C4000z ..wen i saw the IS-1 which can be used handheld .and also the EVF allowing bright vision for composition i though this camera would be the answer to my Infra Red prayers..ive been trying it out with different IR filter since i got it in NOV 2008..and unfortunatly the HOT SPOTS make this camera virtually unusable .i'm hopeing to be able to ...

Lots of very good feature and very easy to use. Problems: 1. Poor image quality, even at maximum JPEG resolution, high fuzzyness or lack of contrast/sharpness. 2. Hotspots are a real problem and very annoying as there is no way to get rid of them. 3. Any hotmirror filter produces green/blue vignetting from 28 to 100 mm. 4. Manual focus gear not very good in responding. 5. Camera hangs if the on/off switch is operated very fast.

I have now used this camera for half a year, and it's fairly quick and intuitive. The flip out screen is fantastic. All cameras with live view should have this. The manual zoom ring is also a very useful feature. Hate those button zoom things. Dynamic range is astonishing i clear sunshine with IR filter on. I have used this camera for 6 moths or so, it is the same as Fujifilm FinePix S9100 (Fujifilmn FinePix S9600) except that the infrared blocking filter has been removed, hence low value for money, why should it cost more for a missing component... Great fun! A bit expensive ($900. with required filters ) but worth it for the ease of use in IR photography. I've still got some IR film in storage that I never got around using because of the hassle. This is a great little camera, you will have so much fun with it! You start to look at scenes with a completely different eye in IR. This is the first EVF camera I've ever used and it makes IR photography easy. Let me start out saying I am not a professional photographer, it's a hobby. This camera is more fun to use than any other camera I own. I have always liked shooting B/W, but with this camera it is even better than plain old B/W it's almost 3-D. You can really get some nice effects in the field shooting landscaping and etc. The trees and bushes come alive. I know nothing about shooting IR, but you don't need to do anything but take this camera out of the box and start shooting. Problems: None.
