Problems: I bought one for my wife and one for my mom in 2003. Both of them show a color
(lines) on the screen and refuse to take pictures.

Opinion: I bought this camera in 2002. I needed it for well, exactly a point and shoot camera, for occurences when it is uncomfortable, or out of sheer laziness to use my SLR..

as a point and shoot camera it functioned as it should be.. no "ooh"s and "aaaah"s.. but no bad pictures either.. as I said.. it functioned well

Problems: In early 2006, I was preparing it for another trip, ... found out that the lcd only showed grey. plain grey. haven't been able to shoot with it ever since...

Opinion: my boss bought the camera in june of '04 ... have loved it until just a week ago. very handy, great size, the usb cord is great for downloading the files!

Problems: the lcd monitor shows green & pink streaks and blobs the actual picture taken is much clearer, but lots of noise and pink streaks under the darker colors. the battery is fully charged and it's been taken care of...

my screen hasn't gone blank yet, and i can still take pictures, they just aren't the best quality now.

The day after i first posted this message the pictures stopped being so clear. The LCD is still streaky with pink & green, but now the picture is one big grey streak. A year and a half and i need a new camera.

Opinion: Up until yesterday I was raving about this camera to everyone who would listen to me. However, now, I too have the exact same issue with the breakdown. Details below

Problems: Screen has gone black, unable to take pictures or film, but can review pictures. 9/10 times the camera will switch on, 5/10 times the zoom lens will no longer retract back into its hobbit hole.

Bought my Cam in 05/2004 - would be interesting to know if Fuji considers this to be a problem or not. I have looked after the camera and all worked great til last night. I had not used it since Xmas, it had been sat in its case on my shelf, and had not been dropped. COme to switch it on and nothing.

Such a shame. It was a great camera. If it is indeed £100 to have it fixed according to Fuji then I wont be bothering. And I will be buying a new camera instead, and it wont be a Fuji, despite the quality. I expect items I cuy to last longer than 20 months or so. Esp when they are £150. :(

Opinion: Now it's dead.
Was a very good camera, for ease of use and image quality.
Bought it in march 2003 (399 Euro), used it for more than 3000 shots.
Nice look, nice metal body, very good battery life, good speed, very nice colors, image sharp enough for print on A4 sheets, with low noise.

Problems: Artifacts when used at max res (4mp).
The real problem is that it died, at the end of august, 2005. All the camera works, but it cant capture images; the screen became black, is only possible to play images u store in the memory card. The problem seem to be the same of "Yellowdfp"(see mail).
In october, 2004, the zoom switch broken, fitted in warranty (2 years in EEC).
I must say: I've got 5 film reflex cameras (Nikomat FT- 1965/67, Contax RTS-1975/80, Yashica FX3- 1980/82, Zenith ET- bought in 1992, Chinon CE Memotron - 1976?), 1 viewfinder (Fed 5b - 1980?), 1 compact camera (Olympus Mju-Stylus - bought in 2000) and 1 folding 6x6 (Zeiss Ikon Ikonta - 1950?); they are all still working with minor fittinigs (Yashica and Nikomat)!
Now I've 2 new digital cameras, a Canon S60 (very good) and a Minolta F300 (nice but slow, noisy pictures even at 100 ISO) bought in the last 2 years: I hope they'll last a little bit more.
It's a shame a so expensive, nice and brand new camera died so easy!

Opinion: Good but now broken (see problems). I bought this camera new 3 years ago and have liked it very much. It cost a now rather expensive looking £350 and has done everything I could have wanted of a first-time digital camera. True, by todays standards, the LCD screen is small, startup times rather slow and movie quality low. Having said that, rechargable battery life has always been excellent, case is quality metal build, voice memo and composition grid overlay features have been useful and PictureCradle 'docking' station sadly missed from many newer cameras. Picture quality has always been very good. Have now bought FujiFilm F10 Zoom as replacement.

Problems: As others have observed here, there may be a reliability problem. After 3 years of light use, always well looked after, never knocked or dropped, the camera suddenly stopped working. On power on, the lense deploys but the LCD screen remians blank and no pictures can be taken. Playback mode still works and can be used to retract the lense again. FujiFilm has quoted a total repair cost of £100 (£65 in parts). Camera is long out of 1 year warentee and it does not seem economical to repair. I will now be selling for spares. Real shame.

Opinion: I was a big proponent if this nifty little camera - so much so that I ended up buying 5 of them over a 1 yr timeframe as presents for others, in addition to one for my personal use. The first sign of trouble was when I was showing one of my friends how to use it and it suddenly died - I thought the battery just died but I replaced it with my personal one and it still didnt work - so I brought it back to the store and they were dumbfounded and sent it back to Fuji for repairs under warranty - 6 weeks later all was well again. But then I got a call from another friend with the same issue - it just went totally dead for no particular reason - so we had that one repaired also. The store said they hadnt seen any problems like this so I just thought it was my bad luck. Well another one died and then the first persons one died AGAIN!. Now they are all out of their 1 yr warranty so repairs are not fiscally viable at this point - Obviously Fuji has some quality control issue that should have been addressed in a recall - this cant be pure random - its a shame because I really liked the camera and features and thought it was well made - but I cant argue the facts - out of 6 cameras, 3 have died (no dropping or abuse) and one has died twice - I am waiting for mine to go now - so I cant say I can ever recommend a Fuji camera to anyone.

Opinion: It was 2 times broken with the same probelm!
I bought the camera on 3-1-2003, i liked it. Its small, good resolution, easy navigation.

The batery is ok, last longer lasting, can take hours to take picture, more when I dont use any flash. But it would be great if only this camera have an option for regular AAA alkaline baterry to make it easier when you have to go out for a long time.

The zoom is ok, the movie is nice, when I use the 128SD I can take hundreads picture and a long movie without dropping the bat . Notice that the SD was cheaper and it works with my pda also, so its a practical use than XD right now.

The design is cool & easy to carry. It's a nice toy.

Problems: But right now I got a big dissapointed. From the date I bought till now, the camera was 2 times broken.
First time, it cant charged the battery, the charger & batery is not broken, they say something wrong with the IC, and lucky me I still have the guarantee so I took to the service and it was fixed (But I dont know if they just fix or change the broken part totally).

I even bought the underwater casing in singapore a month ago, because I believe that this small tiny pocket camera would be along lasting for my practical snap shot on the go.

The other probelm now I have is that suddenly the camera just broken again, it never fell off or missused. I always cary on the safe place & safe camera bag just like how I treat my other cameras. Now the probelm was suddenly when I took pict, the lens was stuck outside, and the camera just dead., can't turn on or off to move the lens back inside. When I put to charge it even dont turn on, or move the lens back inside, but the indicator blue of charging seems works.
I brought to the official service in indonesia but it cost me millions just to fix it (spare part), which is probably more efficient to buy new one. LOL!!!

Bottom line, this camera is neat, but maybe Fuji should give longer guarantee, since its vulnarable, or probably just fix the IC probelm. The mechanics of sliding lens seems give probelm.
I dont know if I am the only one to face this probelm or if there's somebody that have the same experience like me.
In my opinnion its a vulnerable camera, when you got 2 times broken with the same probelm....hey there must have something wrong inside!

I got dissapointed with this camera sparepart.

Ok, any information/question just email me.
Thank you.

Opinion: This is my second digital camera, first was half MP Jenoptik only used for posting images to eBay! This Fuji is excellent and vastly superior (bought for £199 from Dixons Online).
Quick to charge up, retains charge well enough to last a couple of days worth taking/editing pictures.
Download to finepix viewer is a doddle, easy to manage album.
I am delighted with sharp images, and cropping on the camera is very simple.
Easy to operate all controls, good bright LCD viewer.
I am a very happy Fuji user. :-)

Problems: No problems but I had imagined finepix viewer would incorporate some basic image editing software. Only thing you can do however is rotate!
Jenoptik came bundled with Ulead Photo Express 2, which is a good basic program. finepix take note.
Zoom button is a bit fiddly but I'll get used to it.
