Opinion: It's my first digital camera. The only other camera I own is a cannon AE-1.I've been waiting for this new model to come out. I picked it up on Friday afternoon and by that night I had everything worked out. The instructions were well layed out, there was a short version to just get you starered ( it shows how to take a picture, not intimidating at all). Then there is the next part on the more advanced uses. Also the software was a piece of cake to install but I think having windows XP made that easy.
Problems: there is a extra lens ring that goes on the camera, this makes the camera much bigger and the lens cap keeps falling off.
Opinion: I had been searching for a digital camera with SLR-like body, 3 or more megapixels and ability to zoom more than the usual 3x optical which cost not more than US$500.
Finepix 3800 or also known as S304 is the best choice which fits my criteria perfectly! It's performance is excellent. Night shots are great and day shots are wonderful. Gives you sharp and crisp pictures outdoor or indoor. The functionality and features are VERY easy to understand with straight forward navigation menu.
Have all the various manual settings for you to meddle with if you think the auto settings are not perfect for certain conditions. Very low battery consumption and the software that comes with it installs on your computer like a breeze.
Get a +4 close-up filter lens for macro shots with manual settings. Never use the automatic macro setting.
Honestly, I've no regrets buying this camera!

Problems: The lens cap is kinda loose if you use it on the lens adapter. And there is no manual shutter speed control.
Problems: Like the 2800, noise levels a bit high.
Opinion: First, let me say that this is the first digital camera that I have actually bought with my own money. Our office uses them a lot. For the money, this is my opinion of a real sleeper in the digital market. 6X OPTICAL zoom takes real clear crisp closeups - much better quality than our office's 3mp Kodak ! The macro on this camera is as sharp as the Nikon. I've taken pictures of bee's eyes on flowers from a half inch away! - and printed them on 8x10's, with super results. The fact that you can take the media card to a camera store for prints is an added bonus
Problems: The flash is a little weak. You can't use an external flash either. One piece of advice is to buy a battery charger and some good quality rechargables. the camera dosen't use a lot of power I just can't put it down.
