Opinion: Great Features, Lousy Construction. I purchase two of these cameras for my company several years ago, based on their feature set. I can honestly say that I fell in love with the little gems until they started falling apart. The features in this camera are amazing and the software is very good. I find myself using image expert all the time. I also use the interval feature to record time lapse conditions, a feature lacking in other cameras. The image quality is amazing on this little camera, as good as I have seen in much more expensive models. Whatever you do, dont break it. How a camera that cost $400 can be considered a throw away is beyond me, but it might as well be. Epson charges a flat rate of $299. to look at it. If Seiko/Epson stayed in the game and improved quality, they would have been a winner. They apparently have a heavy overhead. If you get your hands on one keep the included accessory barrel in place with a UV filter to keep dirt out of the camera. Take it off to shoot flash as it vignetts. Also dont bump the selector switch, very chinsy.
Problems: Lens barrel breakage, Selector button breakage
Opinion: I loved my camera until the zoom broke. It happened off warranty so I am out of luck. It was not the faught of the camera. And, when I did send it in to Epson the first time for leaving it in the rain, Epson fixed it no questions. Great camera but in a time of 5+ pixels, it may have out lived its usefulness.
Opinion: Had my Epson for 17 months, was very pleased.
Problems: I know these are no longer being sold and Epson is out of the camera business, but thought I'd post my complaint.
For no reason at all, my camera just died.It will still save a picture, but will not let me change any modes. It will also automatically focus on whatever it is aimed at ( I am not touching any buttons) it is then locked and has to have a picture taken to become unlocked. But better aim it at your subject, or it will immediately refocus on whatever it is aimed at again. All buttons are useless now.It is always stuck in automatic. The counter always spins like it is saving a picture, even though it is not.And since it is always spinning, it is impossible to turn it off except by removing the batteries.
I babied it and expected it to last longer then 17 months. It was never dropped, not even jarred a tiny bit.
Opinion: Cattivo bilanciamento del bianco
Ottime le lenti
Problems: scarica le pile non appena si usa il flash
Opinion: Good camera for good light conditions helps a lot
another Flash. The batteries die fast turn off the LCD panel or if you have many batteries go ahead.
Problems: Just in the night this camera it's not the best for
concerts shoots or in the night.
Opinion: Just the digi to my demands. With its manual possibilities I can easily do my semiprofessional work with it. At auto mode it is almost impossible to make a a faulty image. With the feature list full of goodies, it's difficult to pick an outstanding one, but I will mention the hotshoe for ext. flash - a must for a semiprof and rare to find at reasonable priced digis yet. The 3 MP CCD gives image files capable to give me good quality 8X10 prints. The use of std AA cells makes All-over-the-world operation uncomplicated.
Problems: I have had no problems during the year I have used the camera, but if I should mention a couple of minus points, it would be the relatively long power-up and inter image times. And the lack of room for a spare set of batteries in the original camera case.
Opinion: Excellent camera. I've had this camera just about 5 months now, and am am very pleased with the results. The construction is very good. After taking a beating during a fall in a forest, the camera not only continued to work, but continues taking great pictures. I've taken about 500 shots since the fall, and I haven't experienced any image problems. The image quality is supurb, and I'm dually impressed with professional, as well as Epson 785EPX printing results. I'm a Linux user, and I had no problem getting the camera to work. I was disappointed that GPhoto does not support it, but had no problem writing a program to deal with this issue. (Camera Sync - http://www.j5studios.com/usbcs/index.php) The camera is easy to use, but I wish switching modes was a bit easier then having to switch to setup, and then switch back. I do love the menu on/off button, instead of having to have the LCD on all the time, since I don't tend to use it as the viewfinder when taking pictures. Overall it offers great pictures and can take quite a bit of abuse from my experience.
Opinion: I've had this camera for about 7 months now. Very good quality of images and features. Microphone should be in the front though. I've used a UV and polarizer filter, a nice feature since they supply the adapter ring. Startup takes a while, storing a Hypict/TIFF takes a while but that is expected for that large file. I usually use higest resolution with extra fine detail and autofocus. 1700 and 1600ma nimh batteries are okay. LCD and video mode drains it fast but I've used the viewfinder for a wedding once and it still had power for like 30-40 more using the LCD screen. Stiching feature is nice for 360deg. panoramas w/ included software (Windows only). Despite the color problems the pictures edited in photoshop gets great results, I've been complemented when I sent people their pictures on CD. I print on an epson photo 700 but may get a 925 or even a 2200 later on. On my sister's epson photo 820 it came out great using print image matching!! The nice bag it comes with is useless when you start using the lens adapter w/ other lenses. I've used a Kodak DC280 before and used my sister's Minolta Dimage X this summer. Both were nice but when it comes to features the 3100z beats them both. Got it for $500 from best buy.
Problems: Just have some concerns about some color accuracy. My old Kodak DC280 (2MP) was very very color accurate with more detail and sharpness.
Opinion: I have this camera for about 1 month. It replaced my old
Epson Photo PC500 and my old Agfa ePhoto 307 (they are
very identical). This camera keeps suprising me in almost
every picture I take. I have been waiting for 3 months for this
camera, since Epson Portugal didn't have one to deliver,
they said that some parts were mising to complete the
cameras. Glad I have waited for it. I have the same ideia that
some users have about the plugs cover. My Epson came
with a 16MB CF card, witch is very low capacity. Now I have a
128MBs and a 64MBs cards to fill with 3.3 megapixels
pictures. I love my camera.
Problems: It keeps following me :)
