Opinion: Excellent little camera. The 2" LCD is great. Very fast start-up and shot to shot times. The autofocus is good, but the Pan Focus mode is one of the best features I've seen yet. It sets the hyperfocal distance, so you get a focus range, making the total shutter lag very fast. I'm very happy with this camera as a back-up to my Canon 10d. In fact there are many situations that I'll leave my 10d at home and take this camera.
Problems: Chooses high iso for low light conditions with auto iso on. The high iso images are noisy. For indoor low light, I stick with iso 50 or 100, as the images are much cleaner.
Opinion: guys, this is an excellent digital camera!!!
works really good, time to shot after taking an image in extrimely short, all functions are very easy to navigate in... VERY user-freindly.
Problems: still haven't found how (if at all) to "burn" the date and time on the image when it is being taken.
Opinion: Nice Camera, But Blue Tint Wth Flash.
This is a nice compact camera with lots of useful features (Best Shot, Photo Trimming ,Calendar). I especially like the calendar function when reviewing pictures. The picture quality is good, but there is an issue with a Blue Tint when taking flash pictures. It is not clear to me why the US version does not have Movie mode, but the non-US version does. I heard something about a US law suit, but no details are available. The Casio Z4 seems to appologize for the lack of Movie mode by incorporating the ability to take a still photo and add sound to it. Not useful to me. Still for me, these issues are minor compared to the convienences of size and features.
Problems: Blue tint when taking flash pictures.
Update 1/23/04: Casio posted a firmware upgrade
to fix the Blue Tint issue:
http://world.casio.com/exilim/en/download/ex_z4u_firmup
No Burst mode. Slight lines on LCD when switching from picture to picture. This only occurs with a 256mb SD card. With a smaller card it did not occur. No movie mode on US version.
I'm hoping an eventual firmware upgrade will solve the Blue tint issue and the lack of Movie mode.
Opinion: Edited Jan. 20. First off Casio made a suprisingly nice tiny and fast camera that sometimes took fantastic photos After reading the reviews, I was hoping to like thie Casio Z4 camera. Its a fun, responsive small camera that takes very good shots with adequate light, but ultimately it has many many negatives also. If you are one that can accept tradeoffs, you will like it maybe
Problems: Now for the negatives: no printed manual and no movie option, poor low light shots (DARK). poor tint compared to competition. Poor inconsistent focus indoors, soft shots sometimes indoors and while shutter is fast, it often took blur shots if you tried to move a little with it Since I tested three of these cameras, I could not get the tint right without flash in many indoor shots which is true for many digitals though, but even some outdoor ( slight blue cast but very slight and tolerable) shots had problems , and many of the photos were dark , even in a two lightbulb lit room. even using the cameras custom balance buttons. The focus was a hair off on all three. (soft!) Still there is something totally unique about such a small camera that is able to take some nice shots sometimes. I think the depth of field needs to be improved also.Even with all that I never stop thinking about it........... always missing it when its not with me. I hope so much casio can improve on it.
