Opinion: I bought it to replace my 5D while travelling.
I usually shot static subject and stitching 3 images easly match the resolution of the 5D. OF course dinamic range is not the same.
Its weakest point in my opinion is a problem with sky colors. When the sky color is a bright pale blu, the camera renders it as a cyan. Try pushing saturation +2 to overcome this issue. I also think that its dynamic range is a bit smaller than the very best competitors.
All in all is a good camera, the lens is quite sharp even in the corners and exposition values are always good.
Whit a proper settings and working at 80 asa it returns good clean files with very few artefacts.
Noise is good up to 200 ASA and still acceptable at 400.
The camera doesn't allow you much control, it wants to do all by itself, but in the end it has a point, it does it really good :-)
It has a bit of shutter lag, so shooting people is not a strenght point, but I don't know how other compact cameras compare on this.
It well suits my need and I'm really happy with it.
Opinion: I fully agree with some other reviewers below that this little gem from Casio was overlooked by many in favor of ultra-compacts from big names like Canon or Nikon.
Build quality: excelent, very sturdy camera, high quality bright LCD display, nicely placed buttons.
Image Quality: one of the unique ultra-compacts that has a 1/7 sensor, excellent image quality for the class of compact P&S cameras. Actually it can even hold a candle for some of the advanced P&S cameras as well. Very sharp shots with bright but not over-saturated colors.
Features: impressive list of features, tons of pre-sets for different shooting conditions and tasks. Excellent video quality as well.
Value: at the current price of $149 (Costco) it has about the highest value among many other compact cameras out there.
Problems: The only reason I gave 4.5 points for Construction is:
- no dedicated video recording button - you have to access Best Shot menu to select video option
- a bit of a wishful thinking, but I would love this camera to have the wide end of the zoon around 28.
Opinion: I researched this camera thoroughly and came to the conclusion that I would go with a camera with a larger image sensor, and am glad I did. This camera produces excellent images. Very sharp and excellent color. Low light is excellent as well. I had a Canon 870IS that I had to give to my daughter and the Casio takes much better pictures and for way less money. It also recycles faster after flash, and writes to the (same) memory card faster as well. The 870 was slower overall and would even freeze once in a while. The 870 wins only in the quality of the LCD screen, but what I really care about is what the pictures look like not the quality of the LCD. Purchased for $183.00 delivered to my door. That is the best you can do. I was trying to find a excellent pocket camera and to save a little cash to apply towards the purchase of a SLR. This camera takes pictures on par with my sisters 40D!!! I will never be as good but what a nice carry around camera for the price.
You won't be disappointed!!
Problems: No problems. The only drawback is the lower pixel count LCD, but it is not that bad. Picture quality is where this camera shines.
Opinion: good video mode ...
good pictures at 10m
low noise at iso 400
good menu system
but no muiltiple exposure/bracketing
Opinion: This camera gives very good image quality in a small package. It is a point and shoot that you can carry in your pocket without a big sacrifice in image quality. You do sacrifice manual capabilities, but that is not what point and shoots are intended to do. If you want manual capabilities and excellent image quality, spend a little more money and get a bigger camera. But you can't carry that in your pocket! I think the Casio cameras are very easy to use with a great user interface. The construction is first class. It feels like a little tank! Oh yeah, battery life is great too.
Problems: No problems
Opinion: >>>Likes:
Super easy to use right from the start. Great menu system.
Long battery still lasted for 160+ shots and lots of LCD usage.
Very good colour reproduction.
Compact.
Crisp images.
Lareg sensor.
Low noise on very high ISO.
Super video quality.
>>>Subjective Dislikes:
Takes time to turn on and have to wait for lens to close to turn off.
Focusing not instantaneous.
LCD still hard to see in direct sunlight (beach).
Different USB cable connection only fits to this camera and not my other camera.
Image stabilization is only by increasing ISO instead of sensor shift (better).
Opinion: Good Point and Shoot...much better than my Minolta F10, though I do miss the Manual settings for apeture/shutter speed...play with the ISO and Manual focus to get the best out of it. I will post my demo pics soon.
Opinion: The image quality is not so good as Nikon p5100, but the movie mode is much better.
This camera is much better than canon sd800 cameras.
Problems: The movie mode is limited to 10 minutes. Came on Casio, 10 minutes is too short.
