I’m going to be trying my wife’s Canon T4i camera and I have a settings question. If I have the mode dial on the Creative Mode Zone “Av” setting, where should I set the lens’ focus mode switch — in the AF autofocus or MF manual focus position? If either option is fine, any observations about the benefits or drawbacks of either choice when in Av mode? Thanks.

I was looking at Nik software, but I do not use Photoshop or Lightroom, just the DPP and Imagebrowser software that came with the camera (Rebel T4i). So is there anything out there that could simulate film (color and black and white) that can be used in conjunction with DPP or a standalone software? Thanks.

So I'm looking to spend roughly $100 on a tripod. I'm looking to use it with my Canon T4i with the kit lens and 50mm 1.8, but I want it to be able to hold enough weight so that I can buy new lenses in the future and not have to worry about weight. I want it to be at least somewhat portable and get to be at least somewhat tall (over 5ft would be nce). I'd be using it for photo and video, so I'd like a tripod that can meet those needs. What should I buy? -Lucas

I dropped my Sigma 18-250mm in the river and now looking for ways to replace it. I am using T4i, and have, 1. Canon 50mm f/1.82. Canon 75-300 (Garbage w/o IS :/) I use the camera mainly on my trips to collect memories much more than to have great professional photos, but I do try to get the best shots I can. I mostly take landscapes, and some macros of flowers etc. and also wildlife. The Sigma 18-250 was quite a good lens that covered most of the range I needed, and quality was better than...

I have a T4i, and for some reason I can't get it to work. When I turn it on with an UNLOCKED SD card it tells me that the card is locked. I've found a solution to this issue, that has not worked. When I turn the camera on without an SD card it tells me that the SD card, that is not in that camera, is locked...It takes between five and ten seconds to boot up as well. I don't know if something happened to the firmware when my wife inserted her card into the camera, or what... but I really need...

I am a new photographer and do not have very much experience. I am wanting to get into photography more and possibly go into professional photography in the future. My budget is currently $500-1000 for my first camera and lenses. I am considering the canon rebel t4i, t5, or t5i. What camera would you recommend between these three or what other camera would you recommend? I am looking at purchasing the Canon Rebel T5 bundle that is on the following link:...

Hey there, I'm in Tokyo at the moment and want to take the opportunity to get some new gear :) I had started a thread in the Canon Lens forum because originally, I was just thinking to get a couple more lenses : http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54716272 Currently I have a 15-85 EF-S and the 1.8 50mm cheap one. Very versatile, but I feel I'm not quite there when it comes to image quality, so I was looking to get a few primes maybe. But the more I read, the more I think I'd like to upgrade...

Hi there. I'm hoping someone may be able to help me here. I have an EOS 650D, which was purchased with the standard 18-55mm lens, and have been using it for a couple years with no issue only on auto focus. But today when I looked through the hole to see the subject the lens would not focus but it allowed me to take the picture, it came out perfectly but it just doesn't show it when I look through the hole, if I switch it to the monster view it works fine just not through the hole, I've tried...

I have had my Canon T4i camera for about 2 years now.  I have a Canon 18-135mm lens that came with the camera. I bought a Canon 70-300mm zoom lens, and have a Canon 100mm macro lens. Normally, if I'm just out and about, on vacation, or walking on a street in town I will use the 18-135 lens.  I'm just wondering what everyone's favorite "go to" lens is? I'm thinking of getting another lens, but don't know which way to go. Want a good lens to cover the "grab the camera and go" times.  Would...
