What is meant when experts discuss 'Base Exposure'?  I thought it meant  the lowest exposure that also gives the lowest noise levels.  However I remember one expert saying  that when shooting stills, to use the base exposure of ISO 160 and multiples of that (320, 640, 1250, etc).  Then I read that that is only partly true - the numbers are correct, but they only apply to videos, not stills. Which is correct?  or both? Or not?   Thanks. --BobHartman

Hi, I'm interested in what lens I should buy next. I'm looking into L glass, but also kind of a budget. I kind of have a more photojournalistic style, and I vary from portraits to landscapes, a good zoom with a constant aperture of at least 4 or 2.8 would be the best. I've been looking at the 24-105, 17-40, 16-35 (pricey), 24-70 or a 70-200 (Debating IS or non IS, since I found myself doing sports photography indoors). I've looked around on Amazon, BHPhotoVideo, and even Craigslist to just...

I am having a frustrating issue with my camera and I wonder if anyone has a good explanation for this - or if my camera is in need of servicing. I use a 5d Mark II in the studio and typically use the "flash" white balance for consistent results.  Lately, one in every 7 to 10 images the white balance shifts dramatically to something much cooler and it requires a color adjustment to make the photo useable. I could understand this if it was in "auto" WB mode or something, but it isn't.  The...

I am either considering a pair of Yongnuo YN-622C Wireless TTL Flash Triggers or a  33'/10m Extra-long ETTL Cord for off camera flash. I have a canon 580exii and a 430ex. I know that with the10m ettl cord I would be able to use both off camera as the 580exii would control and trigger the 430ex. But would the same hold true for the Yongnuo YN-622C or would I need 3: one for the camera and one for each flash instead of just 2: one for the camera and one for the 580ex ii?

Hello all.  I bought a rebel 3t a few years ago as a first dslr camera. I learned much with it, used it for what I could, and found its strong points, as well as what I deem its weak points.  I am looking to upgrade soon, and since my number one complaint was noise, I am looking to find out how much of a difference a full frame camera will make in reducing noise.  I always shoot wide open, never having the ISO above 100. But when I view my photos at 100% in lightroom, I always see the...

This summer I'm going on a 23 day road trip through the Badlands, Yellowstone, The Grand Tetons, Glacier, Banff, and Jasper National Parks. This will obviously open up the opportunity to get some incredible landscape shots. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II, and am wondering which of these two lenses will provide with me the best images. When it comes to the 24mm, I've seen some stunning results with the 5D mrk ii. Combined that with it's low light capabilities and better sharpness wide open,...

To start, I am an Art Director for a small agency. I have taken college photography classes and been taking pictures for the last 8 years. I've only done small table top product shoots for clients, headshots by a window using natural light and outdoor shots to this point. My company oversold my abilities and now I am shooting door slabs in a studio for a client.I can rent pretty much anything I need from the studio so my question is just about setup. How should I shoot these door slabs? I am...
