The original 'affordable' full-frame DSLR. The 5D was the first single-grip DSLR to enable the use of EF-mount lenses with the same field-of-view as they offered on film cameras. This 13MP camera, despite a relatively lowly 96% coverage viewfinder, found a home in the hearts and kit-bags of many professional and enthusiast photographers. Technology has moved on a long way and prices have fallen considerably since its launch but the 5D will remain, for many people, the first accessible route to the shallow-depth-of-field and low-light performance that full-frame cameras can bring.

Opinion: I got to use this camera today (with the 50/1.4) and what a treat!
For anyone who's comforatble using a 20D, the learning curve for this camera
is very short.
It feels very solid and seems as well-crafted as my F5. Start-up is near-instant
and Canon's buffer claims seem accurate.
What great, natural color (shooting on a sunny autumn day) and fantastic
shadow detail. Caucasian skin tones were quite clean.
Minor update: had a minilab print 12x18's from three of the jpegs and they look
tack sharp.
Problems: Found myself shooting at -1/3 EV when using the evaluative metering in
bright sun; indoor exposures were dead-on.
Took some architectural pics and white surfaces (on this sunny day) did have
that "blown-out digital look" on my monitor. Darkened the highlights in
Photoshop and inkjet prints looked fine.
An LCD hood would be a necessity when the camera is used in bright sunlight.
8MB JPEGS take getting used to...
Opinion: Well, the image quality is what i bought this cam for. And it sure does'nt let you down. 36.4Mb images (TIFF) really requires the best optics you can find. ;) Vignetting seems more obvious on some optics than with film.
The camera handles well and fits perfectly in my (big) hands. Have not yet recieved the portrait grip or the 24-105L.
Excellent dynamic range, Dare I say? No noise, Very good flash exposure using an old 550EX
Supersharp, colourful pics using my EF17-40L and EF100-400L. No (noticeable) CA using these, and very little vignetting. Hypersharp with EF50/1.8 II, though vignetting is obvious and could be disturbing.
All in all I am very pleased with the cam so far.
Problems: A little plasticky noise when tapping your finger on the cameras underside.
Yep, thats all I could think of! ;)
Opinion: Shot several pictures with 16-35mm L lens and has noticeable vignetting. Goes away at about 20mm.
Disappointing.
Opinion: Excellent value for money. I also did purchased new 24-105 and it seams to it was a very lucky combination. As matter of fact I am selling all my NIKON stuff and I am officially going to be "CANON" guy.... since this is about 5D, well whoever is reading all this, folks this one is good "body" to buy.... I am very happy about it.....
Problems: Any problems.... it is what it is...... Great value for money spend...!!!
